Hi,

I really like the idea of using an case with a rigid insert (aluminium for example) over the screen to protect the screen from being cracked/damaged when not being used. In combination with a screen protector, it ought to prevent the majority of accidental screen damage.

The only one I can find is the Proporta flip case but I'm not a fan of flip cases, they leave too much exposed at the sides and make using the phone as a phone a pain in the rear.

I much prefer a pouch type case but can't find one which has a protective hard insert over the screen area (and don't think my needlework skills are up making one myself Cheesy). Does anyone know of such a case available to purchase in the uk?.

In an ideal world the pouch would be just big enought to fit the Desire when fitted with a protective case like a PDair case.

Currently I am using the pouch from my Blackberry which is just the right size for a Desire with a silicon/hydrogel skin (apart from the last 10mm projecting from the case, but that's okay as it gives me something to get hold of when taking the phone from the case).

Any ideas? Sorry for the long post.

Martin

I realize this isn't the reply you wanted, but I just want to offer one fix which I would consider:
You don't have to fashion a completely new case, just cut open the stitching of one you like, and insert a metal piece before sewing it shut again. That takes hardly any sewing ability and even less time.

Hello again,

In the end I went with a Krusell Donso case, it's not lined with aluminium (afaik) but appears to have some stiffening material inserted in it.

With it's gel case on my desire fits in the large size Donso case with about 5mm sticking out, this is quite good as this last 5mm is covered by the gel case and therefore protected but it makes it quite easy to get my phone out and doesn't muffle the ringer.

It's not perfect but it's not bad.

Regards

Martin

I use this case. It's available through retail near my workplace Smiley

Semi-rigid plastic.

Hi,

The gel case I have is a similar style, it's made from TPU so it's harder than silicon but not rigid like an armour case, combined with the Donso case and a screen protector it gives my Desire pretty good protection.
