Hi, I'm trying to find an extended battery. Seidio have a 1600 battery for the Nexus One - does anyone know if this will be compatible with the Desire? Thanks.

Hi, Mugen-Power produce a 3.7v 3200mAh Lithium ion Battery and back cover, just
for the Desire A8181. It is a bit pricey but it looks ok and works very well in my phone.
Note:- It says that the back is brown in the add but mine appears more like black  Undecided
Anyway try this, www.mugen-power-batteries.com

I got a 2400 mAh battery from Battery Bay (http://www.batterybay.net/Extended-Battery-for-HTC-Desire-p/htccs-ht8181xl.htm).  After two days, I can't tell if it's really better than the original.  Also, the flash LED hole in the back cover is too small and the pictures come out bad (no light in the corners).

I waited until the battery was "empty" and the phone switched off and then measured the battery voltage which was 3.85 V (with a light load).  If you look at Li-Ion discharge curves (use Google), you notice that the battery could be discharged to 3.0 V or even lower.  If you stop at 3.8 V, you get only half or so of the battery capacity.

I'll measure the voltage again after the next discharge and try to add more load to the battery..

I also e-mailed to HTC, but I don't really expect them to change the software to allow for deeper battery discharge (depending on the hardware, it may not be possible).

If you can't tell the difference, something is definitely wrong.  That thing should last 70% longer than the default one.  (2400 : 1400 = 1.71xxxxx)

There is a discussion here about extended batteries, in particular the Mugen.

In the end there seems to be problems with using a higher capacity battery, just for info.  It has certainly put me off getting one for the moment, a better bet might be a solar charger or spare oem battery depending on your situation.
