I'm really close to buying a Desire. The only thing stopping me is the lack of a proper remote control for pausing and skipping songs. I know the earplugs in the box have such a remote, but using those earplugs are out of the question.

I currently use a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It came with a remote control with just a hole for a 3.5mm jack, so I can use any headset and still have the remote available. Anyone know if such a thing exist that works on the Desire?

I'm actually considering modding the earplugs that come wiith the phone, by replacint the plugs with a female 3.5mm jack. Anybody tried that?

Hi Havrenakke,

The Desire comes with an earphone which ios actually pretty good.
As you don't want to use that it IS possible to connect any headphone.
Connected my Sennheiser and the sound was frikkin' good.
For remote control options, have a look at the HTC Desire Audio Adaptor for 3.5mm to 3.5mm HS U350 (with Stereo Headset + HTC Logo, Retail Pack) - This comes with a simple answer/hangup button, no volume or next/prev/pause song etc.

Greetz,

Richard

You could always try wireless control.

Like the Jabra stereo headsets STREET or CLIPPER. On both Bluetooth headsets you can hook up your own 3,5mm headset.

for example look here: http://www.mobielbereikbaar.nl/zoeken?search=Jabra bluetooth stereo

You can pick up a call and end a call ofcourse also skip tracks, play/pause and control the volume! More important bcuz it's Bluetooth it should work on any phone with Bluetooth and A2DP.

Anyone tried using the Nokia remote (with mic for h/f, play, pause, skip, etc) which is compatible with any 3.5mm jack headphones??

I'm with Havrenakke on the stock headphones. I prefer the "in the ear" noise cancelling type especially as I use the train to and from London EVERY day. Since this was posted (originally) in June, anyone know of any product updates since? I've had a scout about but with no luck.

I'm looking primarily for in the ear headphones that have mic and volume up/down at least. Full remote (and mic for h/f) would be the ideal solution.

Cheers!

I did a little DIY with mine. Spliced over a better set of earphones on the original HTC set. just twist the cables together and use a lighter. No soldering required

I tried using the headphones and controller from an n95
with no luck. Just a whole lotta silence.

Can't believe no one has come out with something decent. Pretty lame, after all the talk of being an iPhone killer.

I've got a wireless Sony Ericsson headset and controller, I connect to my Desire via bluetooth and listen to music while the phone is in my gym bag. Receive calls also. Only thing I haven't managed to do is make a call via voice dial, headset instructions say you can.
