Hi ,

I got my desire yesterday. But, as I was learning to use the phone, I accidently formatted my SD card data and all data got erased.  Angry . I have not installed anything or copied any music file as yet. The card has all the data or content that a new brand new SD card will have.

I want to restore all the data back to my SD card. Some of thing that my SD card had(as it appears to me on the PC as a removable drive) were folders called MP3(8 songs that HTC gave with the handset), the help guide(A pdf file) . I dont remember the rest of the folders in the SD card.

Can some body , give me the basic contents of the SD card, that are present when a user gets a new phone.

Please, request you all to atleast give a list of folders that are present initially, when you plug in the phone, the very first time to your PC.

Also, I think, because evrything has got erased, I don't have the htc syn.exe sofware as well. Since, I was using it for the first time, I did not take a back up on the PC.

Thanking You All
  Regards
    Nigel

Nigel,

I can not help with the default list of folders as I have added and deleted many already.  However the HTC Sync software can be downloaded from the HTC website and I would recommend that rather than the version on the SD card as you will then be getting the latest version.

If you have not used the card since you formatted you could try one of the may recovery programs available. Put the card into a reader and plug into your PC (not sure about Macs) and see if the software can recovery anything.  There are some trials versions that let you see if it could recover data before you buy but you may find a free version as well.
A good place to look is the computer magazines and they sometimes have versions on their cover disks.

Hope this helps and you get things sorted.

Hi Tricky,

First of all, thank you for replying to my query ..Appreciate that  Smiley

As a follow up, I had another question . Are the htc sync.exe and the help guide , the two most usefull things that are on the card, that  I have lost or Among the items, that I erased, there a very important features available ?

And,as far as the help guide is concerned, I downloaded that already. But to download the HTC sync.exe, it is asking me for the Username & Password.

Are you aware, What the Username & Password are .? Because, no such details have been provided to me with my phone. It's  only the  handset, accessories and few basic read up(including qucik help, warranty etc) that I have got in the HTC desire box.

Also, Is any other way for me to download, HTC sync.exe, since I dont have a username and password.

Thanking You,
  Regards,
      Nigel

Nigel,

What was on the card isn't too important.  As you make settings, enter passwords etc it'll store them on the card as a backup.  The only important files on there are the sync program and the manual.  Then again you can indeed download more recent versions of both on the HTC website.

As for the default MP3 files, it's not like those were good songs.  So don't worry.
Then again, if you really want them back I second Tricky's advice to hook the phone up to your PC and run some kind of undelete/recovery program.

Oh, and Tricky ...

Put the card into a reader and plug into your PC (not sure about Macs) and see if the software can recovery anything.

Plugging a HTC into a mac is known to mess up the SD card and put it in ReadOnly mode, in which case you'll need to format it in a different phone (Nokia, Blackberry, SE, etc), then format it in the HTC again before you can use it again.  So I'd strongly advise against linking a Desire to a Mac.  HTC never supported Mac, and has no intention of doing so anytime soon.

Hi,

As suggested, I downloaded the sync.exe(v3.0) from the htc support site and it works.  It throws up a problem during installation, but I ignored it and proceeded. The problem was, that it could not install msm SP3 or something like that(first of the four installables) .

Anyways, thank you for all suggestions ..

No worries.  You really can't expect to remember everything.

The best way to recover formatted data from HTC desire phone SD card is to use htc data recovery program, you may refer to this HTC phone SD card data recovery tutorial:
