ok, so cases... an otterbox commuter seems fairly rugged but not too obtrusive. the barely there don't seem to protect the top of bottom of the device, so useless, i don't like plastic cases as they wouldn't offer any shock absorption if dropped... so the otterbox commuter?

I use a Capdase semi-rigid case for my phone. It is slightly soft but rigid enough. It also protrudes slightly above the screen to prevent scratches.

The casemate tough for the desire is pretty good. £16 inc free delivery from Play.

I use a capdase soft jacket as well.

Pretty good, save for the following issues:
  • The power button of the desire is already very sensitive.  There is no inner cavity in the case for the power button.  Hence, when the capdase is put on, the power button gets pressed even at the slightest pressure (such as putting the phone in my holster).
  • On the other hand, the case has an inner cavity for the volume rocker.  Because of this, it's hard to use the volume rocker with the case on.  I hardly use the volume rocker anyway...so it's not much of an issue for me.
  • For some reason, the lint and dust still manages to get between the case and the phone.  I periodically have to remove the case and remove the dust/lint.  No big deal...

The Capdase comes with a free screen protector.  Not really durable..after a month of use, the protector already has a couple of scratches.  Still.. better than nothing though. Smiley

I've got the genuine HTC one (TP C520). It fits great and gives good access to all buttons and sockets. Looks really good on the phone too, I generally don't like cases for phones but this one is quite discreet. Only £6.99 on Play too.

We'll wait for your reaction upon the first drop. My GF was with me when I first dropped it, so to act macho and all, I had to pretend it was nothing.

She panicked because she knows I will be upset. And then later that night I was Sad

I accidentally dropped my Desire a week after I put on the CAPDASE.  It landed corner first then flipped over two times.  Not a scratch on the phone, but there was a minor scuff mark on the Capdase silicone case.  The phone worked fine.  Sigh of relief...but I was still upset. Cheesy

Well i workin a car factory making parts for honda, toyota and bmw so my phone gets battered quite a bit tbh,i was looking at all the cases on the net and found the caasemate on play http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/15798340/-/EnlargedImage.html

Its got a really soft inside case with a hard shell(2 part case)with a screen protector....it is great and has been dropped a couple of times and banged against while at work,i didnt really wanna spend over a tenner on a case but quite glad i did, only draw back ive got is the soft sili-rubber case does pull at the screen protector on the top right corner so there is about 1mil where its lifted but thats it,id say a wicked case tbh and all the cut outs for the ports are spot on,the volume button and power button are protected under the soft inner skin and intergrate into the hard shell very well,i would deffo say get it esp if your phone gets banged about a bit Wink

I love my Otterbox DEFENDER case. Rugged, durable and a good feel.

I have tried most cases but by far the best is casemate(Hardly There I think its called)just clips om the back over the four corners.Solid back that doesn't feel rubbery leaving all the buttons exposed.has a really nece feel.At last I can stop looking.£9.99 from play.com with free postage cheapest I could find.

Anyone tried the black silicone cases on eBay that cost £1-2? They cover the buttons and mouse and look nice in the photos.

I have the BoxWave HTC Desire Armor Case.  It makes the phone chunkier and the clip part is a pressure lock, not a full locking mechanism (it also sticks out a bit), but I like it.  People with fat fingertips might have trouble getting to the edges of the screen with the case on though.

I've dropped my phone from about 3 feet onto pavement 3 or 4 times now and it survived fine.  The case is dented a little on the corner and bottom where it hit, but the phone is fine.

In retrospect I may have been better off with the silver version, as my black version needs some touch-up paint where it fell. Smiley

It comes with a plastic belt clip that connects via a knob that screws onto the back of the case.  The screw-hole is unfortunately MUCH smaller than a tripod screw, and I always break those plastic belt clip doodads anyway, so I never use it.  Might sugru something to the mount to the knob so I can have a stand for my phone though.

For belt pouch, I have the Nite-Ize Clip Case Medium with magnet.
I bought an extra one since I have a habit of breaking the clip or ripping it off the case, but this one has been very sturdy and hasn't given me any problems so far.

My Desire in the Armor Case fits very well in it, snug but not too tight.  The clip also has a "hook" on the inside of the clip so it's almost impossible for it to slip off your belt once it is on.
I went through 5 or 6 leather cases before this one and either I'd rip the clip off, or it'd keep slipping off my belt, so I really like this case!
