You just plug in the phone to the PC/laptop, and when the option comes out, choose tethering. I haven't come across such an app yet... but I think it isn't that possible because the USB port on the Desire is a USB host, not a USB slave. Actually I'm new with android and today I realized that Android can't detect and connect to Ad Hoc Connection (via Wifi) with laptop, but this guy (link below) claimed that he has succeed in doing it. I haven't tried it myself, since it need to be rooted which I haven't and I'm still learning to get to use with Android. The Desire can only act as a USB slave, not a host. This has nothing to do with if it could use a PC as a gateway.
