Has anyone seen the new Desire S? It's beaaaautiful. With an internal memory of 1.1GB and no manual buttons. Take a gander from this site. http://www.siamphone.com/catalog/htc/desire_s.htm  Smiley

I can't make up my mind about the exterior, but the specs surely are nice.  However I have a feeling the Desire series will be obsolete pretty soon.  2011 is the year that we'll be entering the age of dual-core cellphones.

Or just look on the HTC site Cheesy

http://www.htc.com/www/product/desires/specification.html

Always seems to me that not 'that' much actually changes with a new release, not just HTC, but any phone manufacturer...and in saying that, i'll be waiting for the 'next one'.

It's like going from an old 3G to a 3GS...i mean really, is it so much worth it?, personally not.

Just a minor specs upgrade. The processor is updated to the DHD processor, and there's more space and more RAM, as well as removal of physical buttons and changing them with dedicated capacitive buttons.

It'll probably support HTCsense.com too.

Surely the big question has got to be HAVE THEY IMPROVED BATTERY LIFE? I notice it is 1450 mAh as opposed to the original 1400. Assuming it is better, will we be able to put the S battery on to the original Desire?

The S has the newer generation of CPUs, which means it should draw less power than the old "regular" Desire.  Couple that with a (slightly) larger battery, and theoretically it should last a lot longer on a single charge.  Still not long enough for most to last 2 days tho.

As for the shape of the battery, the first one who gets his hands on both a regular Desire and an S will be able to provide an andwer.

I'm considering getting one.  The styling is growing on me.  Don't know if I'll use the front camera much tho.

The release date is said to be April 18th according to what I found on the net.  My regular store (Coolblue in Antwerp) has it on pre-order for 479 EUR.  The normal Desire is 389 EUR there, the Z is 499 EUR and the HD is 539 EUR.

At this point I'm really tempted to pre-order it, however the lack of a trackpad does kinda make me nervous.  I was browsing the forums with my Desire earlier today, and noticed that I (unconsciously) use it a lot to avoid zooming in and out all the time.

I dont't really like the trackpad.I think it's useless. But i liked the physical buttons of desire. They shouldn't replace them with the capacitive buttons on the S.

There are two things I consider as a real improvement.
  • More internal memory - This is a big + as the low memory issue with Desire is not allowing me to get any more new apps from market
  • Front facing camera - This is not for future but present. With the Y! Messenger video plug-in, can be used for video chat

Other positives are better battery life and better graphics.
