I've recently had the painful experience of trashing my Desire with a cup of tea and having to pay for a replacement handset.

I salvaged the SD card from the old phone, as I had previsouly moved my photos and a number of apps to it. I can access the photos but the phone doesn't seem to automatically recognise the apps stored on the card. Is there a way I can restore them so that I don't have to download all of the apps again?

Thanks for your help!

You WILL have to download them again. Not all of the app is moved to the SD card, just part of it.
So long as you used the same gmail address on the new phone, you shouldn't have to pay again for any paid-for apps.
