My EBuddy program just quit working late yesterday.  I tried uninstall and reinstall- not recognizing any of my contacts.   I have reviewed postings and most of us have been using EBuddy.  I have it on my IPod touch as well and it has quit working there as well.

I would like to know the best IM app to use on HTC Desire - Canada, using MSN/hotmail contacts.

I use BeeJiveIM --- it's not free, but you can get the 30-day trial one to test out if you like it Smiley It's also available for Blackberry and iPhone. Basically, it has a nice simple interface, has the speech bubbles when people message each other (compliments ChompSMS which I use Smiley) and works Works with AIM/iChat/MobileMe, MSN/Windows Live, Yahoo!, Facebook, MySpace, GoogleTalk, ICQ, & Jabber.

more info at:
http://www.beejive.com/android/

You could try Meebo too, which is good, but interface not as nice as BeeJiveIM.

I stay a little cautious before trying out new applications for IM. I try and use only popular and trusted apps. How you decide if you can trust an app is obvioulsy up to you.

But, its advicable to be cautious as most of the apps that are available are not official applicaiotns. And, we provide these apps authentication information and also provide these applications the permissions to send and recieve data over the interenet.

I think the best IM app is Meebo. If you create the meebo account you will have history. It doesnt drain a battery and memory as well. Its very reliable and keeps connected all day long with no disconnects. Only one thing is getteing me angry - very tiny smileys. If anybody knows how to replace them for normal text, let me know please.

Actually ... I don't use one on the phone.  So don't be so sure Reebosh  Tongue

I did try "MSN talk" at some point, but had to do a factory reset and simply forgot to install it again.  Don't miss it either.

Then again I don't really use MSN on the PC either.  It starts when the PC boots ... and then I simply don't use it.  Nobody talks to me anyway.

I use Google Talk. You even get notifications and native support.

Yep, GTalk is pretty good. I also use it, but I still finding some for icq and fb chat:) Very hopefully had looked the Slick, but I found out it is losing connection in hide mode.

Just about everyone I know is on Skype, so that's what I use. I've got gtalk installed just in case, though. It seems crazy that there's still no Chat in the Facebook app.

Well, the only problem with FB chat, is that it is FB.

Although I mentioned BeeJiveIM is the best one IMO, since I am with THREE network, I have THREE's own version of Windows Live Messenger, which lets me use it FREE... ie. without incurring data charges, so doesn't use up my data plan. So, I guess this would be my best IM program  Wink  Most of my friends are on MSN (oops.. Windows Live.. lol) too.

THREE's Skype is also free, but I never use it. And Facebook is free too, but as you know, no chat on that, unless you use something like "Go!Chat Facebook Pro".

Yes Go chat is good, but i dont like the interface and system smileys:) I recommend the Meebo for FB chat, it keeps history, has much better interface.
I have already found the way how to modify that tiny smileys in meebo - check the Meebo thread:)

I tried Meebo shortly after I got an android, but it would disconnect far too often for me. I've been using Trillian for over 3 months now. I used to use this program on my PC for years so it has a good pedigree as a first rate IM client. Ingeneral it works fine, connects to all the major players save Skype. I tend to only have it connected to GTalk, MSN and Facebook as I have few friends only on ICQ your Yahoo these days. Well worth a look if you are a dedicated IMer
