Hello all,

I have just received my new Desire on an upgrade from 3 Mobile. I've has a couple of Nokia's before and they have all the 3 branding etc. Having spoken to some guys in the 3 store, they were saying that they didn't even have one to show me as there was such a heavy demand for them. I can now understand why. They also said that because of demand, 3 was getting some and shipping them direct to the customer and not even customizing them. Well that is what has happened with me, I'm sure. My phone works great but doesn't have any links, shortcuts, welcome messages or any such thing. I tried phoning 3 to tell them about this as it was handy to click on the link, "My 3" to check your balance of minutes. Everyone I spoke to said that all phones were 3 phones and none would accept that mine was absolutely clean. They came with all the old stuff about taking out the battery and restarting and all that. I've done these things to no avail. At the end of the day it isn't a big deal but I'm intrigued to find out if anyone else has had this experience. My hunch is that they cant kep up with the demand for this cracker.

Yes, that's true.

I also got my HTC Desire from 3 on Friday (28/05/2010) and its ABSOLUTELY clean! As I see it, this is actually GREAT! You should be happy 3 didn't get a chance to load up your phone with all the crap they usually put on them. Plus, if you check you'll find that you phone is NOT EVEN LOCKED in the network! At least mine isn't and if you got yours from the same batch as mine then yours should also be SIM free!

As for the My 3 and the rest, you can just use the internet browser and go onto the 3 website propper where you can find the My 3 area. And for easy access you can just save your password and bookmark the page and that's pretty much it.

To access Planet Three and My Three on a unbranded hand set you can make this link your home page or just save it to your bookmarks.

http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/hutchkey

It will only connect if you have a 3G single and it won't work over Wi-Fi

Many thanks for your timely help friends, yes it might just be a clean phone, and hey, there's the link I need.
phone is a beauty, but I've my doubts on the battery like so many others. Most of the time I have all the conections off which is a shame, but when I'm working i dont need all these things firing away.

Get Advanced Task Killer from apps to use to stop wasting battery power in the background.

What does the "R" mean beside the signal level. is this "restricted" or something? It's there even if i have 3/4 bars. I know you're going to tell me to read the manual.

I'm probably wrong, but I think it means 'RUN for your life, this phone will self-destruct in 10 seconds.' Wink

The "R" means Roaming. It's when your out of range on the 3G signal your phone roams on to the Orange back up network.

As for your battery life, mine has improved greatly over the 10 days I've had it. Just had a look and it's on 1 day 14 hours and 36 minutes with 20% left.

I know when all else fails, read the manual. It's always something I'm loath to do. but thanks again. I do think the big one now is saving direct to the card. At the speed I'm downloading things from the market  everything is going to be full up.  Roll Eyes

Go to Updates and Rooting.  If you haven't done that process, nothing is going to your SD Card.  I may be wrong.  I'm not a techie.  But I think you'll have a full phone very, very soon.  Once it's Rooted you can start to save to the SD Card.

Or do what I'm doing and waiting for Froyo, which reportedly has the capacity to send apps direct to the card without rooting.  Rumours say froyo will be here (UK) at the end of June.

Yes, like you I thingk I'll wait till the software is ready to download. I stuck in an 8Gig card today so that should be OK for the end of June. Cheers. Wink
