I've had my Desire for 1 year now, got 1 year left on my contract with Orange.

I used to my phone for 8hrs a day at work as an MP3 player and still have about 25% of my battery life at the end of work, and idle it would last about 4 days before needing a charge.

Last Sunday(11th Dec) I noticed my phone turned off so I charged it up over night ready for Monday, I wake up today(Wednesday) and notice my phone is off again. I turned it on and the battery was empty so right now it is charging and from here I will closely monitor it's life.

I was gunna phone Orange and tell them to send me a new battery, but I didn't take any insurance for the phone so they will probably fob me off. Insurance covers theft and damage, and while this could be a hardware fault I can't be arsed to deal with a customer service peon right now.

Been on charge for 3 hours and it's 50% full. Charging via USB.

USB only harges at half the speed of the wall charger.
Have you looked under "About phone", "Battery" to see what is taking the most power?

Woke up and phone was in the yellow portion of charge. Completely idle the whole time apart from me looking at the battery indicator every 2hrs.

@ric323. Yes I was monitoring that.

Cell standby, 32%
WiFi, 33%
Phone Idle, 33%
Android System, 2%

The above is "normal" for my phone in the past and it would last on idle about 4 days. However, for studying I have turned off WiFi.

After today's charge with WiFi off I'll see how things are when I wake up tomorrow(16th Dec) and after that I will try the battery calibrating thing I've read about on here. If it is still poor after that I'll phone up Orange and see if they can replace the battery, if not I'll have to try HTC for some kind of warranty.

I did the "battery trick" and turned off Wi-Fi and now my battery is lasting for days idle before needing a charge.

I may try that battery 'trick' but i thought HTC, after initally recommending it, decided it wasn't a good idea?
