I was really looking forward to my upgrade from my Omnia to the Desire on the 16th of this month, but reading what users are posting on here i.e....overheating problems, failure to sync with pc properly, battery requiring 2 charges per day, failure to download from android market.....etc I'm not too sure now.

Can someone please tell me that their desire has been problem free?

Well, I haven't had any problems with my Desire so far. Except for the battery life, which is dreadfull but not worse then any other phone in its class and slightly better then the iPhone 3GS,  I would give it an all round thumbs up.

Also, if you're thinking to get the Xperia X10 you should be aware that it comes with Android 1.6 (Donut) and it won't be until Q4 of 2010 that it will get Android 2.1 (Eclair). As for the new Android 2.2 there's no news yet as far as the X10 in concerned.

And finally, the main thing which I think may be a deal breaker for the X10 is that its touchscreen is not capable of multitouch! That means no pinch zoom and no multitouch gestures will ever be implemented on the X10.

So if I were you I would consider the HTC Desire or the Nexus One. And, as for these two phones, the hardware is virtually identical. There are some differences but these are not fundamental and mainly cosmetic I would say. The one big difference is in terms of software, as the Nexus One comes with the pure Android and version 2.2 is already being uploaded wirelessly to all terminals, while the HTC Desire comes with Android 2.1 BUT it comes with HTC's Sense UI which I must say I'm quite impressed with. In terms of Android 2.2, there are rumours that it's already coming to the Desire towards the end on June which I guess would be pretty good if it does happen.

Thanks for the reply, Yeah, I think I'll go for the desire. It was just a bit daunting when I decided to look through the trouble shooting page here after all the rave reviews that I've read/seen about the Desire.

I've got high hopes for this device. My better half is going for the X10 as she's a SE fan girl.  Grin

Actually, I also am a big SE fan and so far all my phones that I can remember have been Sony Ericsson (or Ericsson as they were called before the merger).

However, in this case I decided that SE still have some work to do on their phones. But then again, you never know, my next phone might as well be an SE again.

I've never tried an SE although my partner seems to swear by them. The thing that was putting me off from aquiring the X10 was the reviews from owners saying that Sony Ericsson had a poor reputation for updating their software and for technical support.

I was thinking about that dipesh but the trouble is that I'm with T-Mobile and they only are stocking the desire and the Touch 2 in the htc range. If I went with a new phone company I'd lose the discounts that I get with being a loyal customer.

Definately the Desire. Absolutely awesome. Was looking at the Nexus, but decided against it as I prefer the UI of the sense and also was with T-mobile.
The mrs is also a SE fan (must be something with partners-lol) and wants to get the X10.

Haven't had any issues with the Desire and think its my best phone yet.

Yeah nice one diesel, I heard that an app killer would be an essential. Wonder if the battery life will improve after a good few charges. My omnia had dreadful battery life but now i get a good 2 and a half days from a single charge.

The battery life on my Desire has improved DRAMATICALLY over the first week I've been using it. I don't know if this helped, but after a couple of standard charges I gave it two 8 hours charges and then it seemed to me that it started to last a lot longer! I'm now on 36 hours and counting, and that includes a bit of everything, i.e. 3G telephone use, video playback, audio playback, internet usage (WiFi & 3G), but with no excessive use of any of these.

So, the main point is that it really depends on what you use it for. And, before I make a comparison with the iPhone 3GS I should mention that I'm not an Apple fan but I'm not against it either, I'm simply neutral; I think the iPhone is a great phone but not the right one for me. Anyway, going back to what I was going to say, comparing it with iPhone 3GS I think it's fair to say that, on simmilar usage, the battery life on the Desire is slightly better.

Otherwise, I'm really happy with my Desire and I think it's THE best phone I've had so far.

Well I upgrade from my Omnia to the Desire/X10 in 7 days, And the fact that I keep seeing at the end of peoples posts "best phone I've ever had" is sending the swingometer towards the Desire.
I had an idea that the battery life would improve over time and thanks ovimunt I'll definitely try what you did.

well got both these phones and ones up for sale.
im selling........the x10 got the x10 a few months back and thought it was the dogs danglers
great pics, music, and bat life after a few good charges,
BUT THE RINGER VOLUME AND THE EARPIECE VOLUME ARE THE WORST IVE EVER COME ACROSS HAD.

The desire does all the same as the x10 ,and pic quality well 5 megapixels on a phone well enough

and after using the android 1.6 on the x10 and now 2.1 eclair on my desire would advise anyone thinking of an se x10 give it a wide birth till the update later this year ( maybe )
i think this phones a serious contender to mash the iphone. loads of iphone users i now are switching not just too desires ,galaxys, panthers, n8's from nokia,
i phones just to flimsie one drop and its all over £40 quid for a new screen  Grin
