Im about to buy a new phone. I like the Desire, but should the fact that I use a Mac at home, influence my choice towards the i phone 3gs?

If you use a mac, the iPhone would be the better option as HTC and Apple don't really support eachother and have no intention to do so in the near future.

However keep in mind that the 3GS comes nowhere near the Desire in terms of performance.  In comparisons, the 4 and the Desire are really closely matched.  So if you really want to get an iPhone, I'd suggest the 4 over the 3GS.

XSaenen  is right

Anyway, the only thing the 3GS could have better than the Desire, is the multi touch.. From I could tested from my friend Iphone 3GS vs my desire.

HTC desire have more ram, CPU 1ghz instead of 600mhz for the Iphone, you have a 5mp Camera with led flash instead of a 3.15mp.

One thing also good for the Iphone, is that it has 16gb internal memory where the desire has 512, and need to be rooted to put all app into the microSD card..

There are positive and negative point on each phone, but I think the Desire has more positive than the IPhone.

I have a Desire and my wide an iPhone 3GS. I would say to base you decision on how you plan to use the phone. If you have a large iTunes collection then the iPhone will certainly be the best option as it will be a simple task to sync tracks between the two.

The Desire on the other hand can be used without ever connecting it up to a computer. The only time I use a USB cable is to charge the phone (unless I'm rooting, but that's out of scope here)

If you are a gamer the iPhone still wins here, even when games do come to Android they have usually already been released on iPhone so if you think you would game a lot again the iPhone probably wins.

To be honest the choice between an iPhone and an Android is a lot like choosing between a Mac and a PC.. if you just want things to work without thinking about it, the Mac is best. If you like to tinker around with things (and it could be argued HAVE to tinker about with things) and see what can be done PC is best (IMO before anyone gets too carried away, just trying to help the guy here)

Since you've already decided a Mac was best for you for desktop work, the same may be true of your mobile work.. but either phone will be a good choice in the end. Both have bigger and better brothers if you have the cash.

Oh one final thing.. if you have sold your soul to Google already in terms of Gmail, Calender etc that's bonus points for getting any Android phone.

I haven't done all that much research into the differences but some that made my decision easy were that the iPhone has:

Higher resolution screen, but
Twice the price of the Desire
No FM radio
Locked technology so you can't do much with it or write your own apps
Sealed case so you can't change the battery and it costs A LOT to have it replaced
Lack of Flash, when it's pretty much a 'standard'
Not sure - does it have an SD slot or is it fixed and internal? (i.e. not upgradeable)

Also:
I'm left handed so would have problems with the aerials
It's far too trendy, and common as muck these days Smiley
I don't like Apple (I'm a computer engineer and want to be able to tinker with hardware and software)

P.S. No need to root the Desire to move apps to the SD card:

Your link doesn't work..

P.S. Not all the application can go on the SD cards.. I just tried procketcloud (for remote desktop) it's 10mb, and can't move on my SD card.. To move all apps, you need to root, atleats in all forum I saw Wink

Thanks guys for all your unbiased info. Being a Desire forum, I had expected lots of anti Mac comments! The one thing that puts me off the 3GS is, like you said, they'r common as muck nowadays!!! To be honest, for what I do on a phone, the cheapest B&W screen phone would probably do me! But I'm a sucker for nice tools. I love gadgets, even if I don't use all the features.
So after thinking about it, I will PROBABLY go for the 3GS.........but there again...........Huh

The way you use a smartphone is less like a phone and more like an ultra portable computer. You'll find whichever route you take the way you use your 'phone' will change forever and you will not understand how you ever lived without it Wink

I just thought to something, does the only button on IPhone can go back to home, or it's only a back button? cause this is nice with a Desire, there is a optical trackball, Back, home, search button Smiley

I would say go and try the 2.. They have demo phone that you can use.. see how goes the 3GS and the Desire Wink
