Hi everyone,

I've just got my Desire today from Starhub (Singapore) and it's being charge for the first time right now.

Being a total noob to android phones. I was hoping if any tech savvy members could guide me on the pros and cons of rooting, unlocking, syncing with outlook and all available upgrades. Do bear with me if I've asked the obvious as i am trying to pick up the basics from zero.

Will really appreciate it someone could help me start off being an android phone user. T

The basics....Get yourself onto the android market and start downloading apps.
Right, rooting comes from the linux term "Root". This is the name given to the administrator as you can get to the root of the system. Rooting will give you more access, which means you can use certain apps from the market that would otherwise not work (overclocking/checking cpu/ext).
The cons to this is that, if something goes wrong, your phone could be bricked, which would mean it is totally broken. Also, rooting your phone will void your warrenty. These are the risks involved.
I rooted my phone and then flashed different roms onto my desire. I am currently running a custom 2.2 rom from modaco (google "modaco htc desire"). You can get the roms before the official releases.
Hope this helps you on your way.

Thanks sxi-boy. Could shed some light about unlocking? I've seen it being mention but got no idea what it's about. Thanks!

Unlocking a phone means you can put ANY sim card into it. So if your phone is locked, you can only use that providers sim card. I am locked to T-mobile so can only use t-mobile sim cards.
There are some websites that can unlock your phone but think it costs about 15.

If you want use another sim card to this mobile so please first you will unlock your mobile then you will put another sim card to ur mobile.
