Got my 2 screens (Digitizer & AMOLED) from e-Bay seller 'bestsellstuff'.  They are based in the UK and delivered to Ireland quickly after ordering.  Cost of both screens inc P&P to Ireland was GBP 85 which I thought was excellent.  Top class e-Bay seller who answered all my questions promptly, delivered promptly and also supplied the required tools needed to do the installation.

Fitted the screen using a combination of (a) http://tjworld.net/blog/htc-desire-tear-down#Test  and (b) the HTC disassembly video I embedded in my post above.

Process was very straightforward and took me less than 1 hour.

Result is a fully working and restored HTC Desire  Smiley Smiley Smiley

I had been quoted huge money by a repair shop here in Ireland and to send it back to HTC involved sending it to the UK (at my cost), them to look at it and quote on it and either fix it & send it back (at my cost) or if I didn't like the quote then have it sent back unrepaired (at my cost).

No Thanks HTC....  Smiley

Cheers for that post, can you post a linky to the ebay shop, tried to find it but no luck.. just cracked my screen on the concrete floor going into work this morning Sad

HTC Desire A8181 - HT08

The shop will probably wax and wane according to the demand of the Desire. Just make sure in you search, you list the right model (A8181, A8182 or A8183) and the type of screen being used (SLCD or AMOLED). The rest of the guide (though I didn't use it myself, fortunately) will still apply.

Good luck.

Horrible feeling when you see it smashed.   Did you crack both the digitizer & the LCD or just one?

Here's the link for the e-bay guy I used:  http://myworld.ebay.ie/bestsellstuff?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:IE:1181

I found them very helpful, reasonably priced & they deliver quickly.

If your replacing the LCD make sure you get the correct one (SLCD or AMOLED) otherwise it's quite an easy fix using the guides linked here.

Good luck..   Smiley

Only the screen shattered have used some tape on it to keep it together and not drop into the LCD so shouldn't need to find out what I need (SLCD or AMOLED)  > how do I find out though? (for other people on the thread maybe..)
Good luck.

Cheers for that HTC has said if it's covered under warranty they'll stand over the cost, find that strange since I < (ME) dropped it ... Wink Anyway will run that out and see what happens and let youguys know in case you want to venture down that road. I'll order that screen from there and see how it goes  Cool

Thanks guys.

only one way to find out which screen you have, andlid.  If it emits a blueish glow, it's an amoled.  If it's a green-yellowish glow, it's an slcd.  Having both types side-by-side makes it easier.

Another option is to mail HTC and ask them if your phone is an amoled or slcd.  They can simply look that up via the serial number.

Has anyone been able to find out if an Amoled display can be installed to Desire that was built with an SLCD? I have fitted one to mine, but its just black screen even with Froyo rom installed. Are the Main boards different perhaps

Regards, Tony

They are different.  That's why it's mentioned a few times to get the correct one.  an SLCD Desire won't work with an AMOLED screen and vice versa.

If your phone is AMOLED, replacing it with an SLCD screen might brick it. So, be careful with that...

Er... it is confirmed that using the wrong screen will brick it. Different specs and stuff.

I'm afraid it's a bit late for that, tony.  Bricking means that your entire phone is dead.
Your best option would be to send it back to HTC with an explanation what happened, then hope for the best.  The repair bill will be quite high.

Hi everybody !

I broke my AMOLED screen during a snowboard session. Everything else still seemed to work. So I decided to purchase a new Samsung screen on ebay and repair it myself.

My new AMOLED is now working but I now have 3 other problems :
- the camera is no longer working (I have tried to remove and put it back but that doesn't help)
- the microphone is no longer working (it was before my repairing)
- the luminosity is very low (removed auto adjusting since the camera is not working but at max level it seems just as bright as it was before at 25%)

Any idea about what when wrong during the process ? I think I may have unplugged some part (the flexible one ?).

Thanks for any help !

I have the same problem - shattered touch screen on my Desire.  The LCD screen behind is fine though and everything still works!  Smiley

So I will try just replacing the outer touch screen, following the links provided earlier for dis-assembly etc. (Thanks for those!)

First hurdle - are there different variations of the HTC Desire? Looking at the parts suppliers on e-bay the screen illustrations look different. Are they just using generic pictures?  How do I identify which phone I actually have?

Hi ddclutch, welcome

The best way to be sure is to contact HTC through their website's support form and ask them what kind of screen your phone has.

Also, make sure it's actually a screen for the right phone.  It's easy to get confused between Desire, Desire HD and Desire Z.  Once the Desire S gets released it'll add another chance to pick the wrong one.

Shattered my screen some time back.
Got it replaced, but now it wont power up the screen.

The phone boots up, and I'm able to call it. But for some reason, there is no power running through the screen. Do anyone have an idea to what the problem is?

I have broken the Digitizer/Touch Screen, but not the LCD Display.

My phone is a PB99220. How do I tell if it's a G7 - Google - Bravo - G3 - A8181 - or any of these other names I see used around the net? All I can find written on mine is PB99220, and on the serial# sticker it says P/N: 99HKZ091-00     B.
It does say "with Google", and "WITH HTC SENSE" on the back cover.

My real question is: Does it matter which version of the Touch Screen/Digitizer you use? Do they all work exactly the same? Are they all interchangeable with each other? Mine is a part# 940-682-1RA (found on printed circuit board attached to Touch Screen). Can I use one with part# 940-663-1R1? What part#'s/descriptions, etc. do I need to care about when ordering one from someone on eBay?

Thank-You Everyone who Answers!
