The list of places that cannot be found under Current Location in the HTC Weather application seems to be growing. I have personally experienced problems in Worcester, Edinburgh and Southampton in the last week. However, if I switch to Fancy Widget the weather for the current location is immediately available.
Fancy Widget is being withdrawn because HTC have complained that it is too similar to it's own application. I would be happy to use the HTC app as long as it works properly!
I have seen various suggestions from HTC on other forums about making sure GPS is on etc. The bottom line is that, with exactly the same settings, Fancy Widget can find the current location weather everywhere and the HTC app cannot. Please fix this HTC.

I am having a similar problem and am interested in this 'Fancy Widget'.  Can you still get it?
I have been really pleased with the desire and had no problems until it deleted all my messages (text) one day, and then the battery went funny on me about a week after that.  I charged up my phone only to find that my Current Location for the weather is United Kingdom.  Up to that point the current location changed even around minor outlying areas of my hometown as well as my hometown of Chelmsford.  I can set Chelmsford as one of my cities, but there is definitely a problem here as I know that Chelmsford is available for the weather.

Can anyone help?

I am having a similar problem here in Ireland.

My weather is now shown as Ireland instead of my location, which was previously.

I have a similar problem with the time.
I use the home screen with the two clocks and one of these clocks also showed my home town but now it just shows Ireland.

I was inclined to blame my ISP but, it now looks as if it is a HTC problem.

I think this may have somthing to do with the latest firmware update.

Similar problem here in North Wales seen over the last week, more often than not the Weather location is shown as "United Kingdom" whereas before it was always the closest village..
Bit of a shame

The problem seems to  be widespread, other forums on the Internet are reporting the same problem.
In Greenlaw it used to say Greenlaw was my location until a few days ago, now it says I am in United Kingdom
HTC are suggesting factory reset (which of course makes no difference)

Apologies if my words don't make much sense as I am writing from my Desire using SwiftKey (which if you haven't already got then you should give it a go)

In the meantime is there a similar app that will do the job?
Thanks in advance

I have got the following reply from HTC after I contacted support and , gave them a link to this site.

However, I do not know how to access the personal tab or settings menu mentioned.
Does anybody have an idea how to.

Reply from HTC
Thank you for contacting HTC Regarding the weather problem, thank you for providing that link for me. We are aware that there are problems with this application and are looking into resolving it, the problem that we have is that three companies are involved with this application and so itís not just us who have to make amendments. I would recommend keeping an eye on our website as that is where we put any new information/updates and there first. I have also provided some more steps to try to get the weather application working: OPTION 1 1.Select Personal Tab-->Phone-->GSM/UMTS services 2.Untick the tickbox "downloadservice" OPTION 2 regional settings 1.Start-->Settings-->Menu (right lower corner) 2.More-->System-->Regional settings 3.Choose the right location. OPTION 3 1. Start-->Settings-->Menu (right lower corner) 2. More-->System-->location settings 3. Make sure the slide 'Location service settings' is switched to off Hope this has helped. Thank you for contacting HTC if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Got a further message fro HTC agreeing that the info is irrelevent to the desire

The reply from HTC looks to be talking about something like the HD2 to me (or another windows based HTC smartphone equipped with HTC Sense)
That's not a lot of help for us then.

Out of interest to test something I downloaded accuweather widget last night which found my location with no problems. On another forum HTC said that the data comes from the accuweather servers.

Guess we just have to wait now

Contacted HTC as well and got the following reply:

Thank you for contacting us. In regards to the weather app, I can help you with that. HTC are investigating what has been changed on the weather provider's database, and we hope to have a fix soon. If it is identified that a fix is required for the weather application, the resolution will be made available on the HTC website. Please continue to watch our web site. I Trust that this resolves your query please do not hesitate to contact us again if required.

I take it we will have to wait.  I think this might be an Android/htc problem as it isn't happening on non-Android htc phones as far as I know.  Often when updates in web-based apps are made, little things that aren't meant to change tend to be affected.  This might explain the liasing between three different companies (as mentioned earlier by htc).

I will definitely contact them again if nothing is resolved... Undecided

This widget is odd. It know where I live and usually displays it, but often it shows places between five and ten miles away (and that's a lot around here in terms of weather).

Has anyone with an HTC Desire resolved the United Kingdom current location issue?

My Desire is showing my current location as UK!

I contacted HTC about this and their response was that it was a known issue and they were working on it.  Something changed, wither with the widget or the web site that provides that data.
When I first got the Desire it accurately showed my location, then it went to UK and now it usually shows the nearest town at best.  The website that the data seems to come from can still find my village so I have no idea what happened.  Let's hope that 2.2 does indeed fix this.

HTC's response to my query was for me to press the + button and add my location.

I've responded to them pointing out that for me to physically add my location detracts from the obvious point that the Weather App is supposed to find my location wherever I am automatically!

I'll await their response, although I won't be holding my breath for a sensible response, based on the above.
