Hello Guys,

I have my HTC Desire for a month now. Today I put an unlock pattern on it and forgot it after a short time (stupid me) but i entered it wrong something like 25 times and now the only way to sort out the problem is to enter my gmail address and password. Much to my annoyance it hasnt accepted it at all in any way.

I have read in many other sites that a lot of HTC customers have problems like this especially the email address problem.

I would be extremmely thankful to anybody that can help me out .

I'm not sure but a factory reset might sort it out for you.

Yup, a factory reset is the only way.  That's a good thing tho.  If there was another way, that would mean that the phone's security is a joke.

As for the email not working, that apparently does happen.  HTC probably knows about the problem.  Let's hope they bring out an update at some point which solves it (but I'm not holding my breath for that).

What you can do is back up the data from your memory card first.  But whatever's on your phone will be wiped.

Actually getting to the reset (since the phone can't be operated) will be a problem!! You will have to use the hardware reset. With phone off, hold power, vol down and cam buttons until the android appears. You can then reset from the menu that is displayed. HTH

Hi,

I did the same with locking the pattern and cannot get back onmy phone. I tried clicking on the recovery after holding down the off button and the volume but it has just come up with a red triangle with a red !.  What can I do now? any idea's?

Damn !

If I had read this topic earlier, that wouldn't have happened.  That post by SpartX is a good way to brick your phone.  I'll remove that info ASAP.

Basically your entire phone is blank now, so I'm afraid you'll need to recover it using an RUU.  Unfortunately I'm not too good at those, but Sakai's rooting guide contains links to them.  I'll ask him to get in touch with you.

First of all, don't panic.

You might have erased some stuff, but don't worry. Since X is of the opinion that your phone is now completely bonked, I will need you to do something:

1. Take the battery out of the phone.
2. Put it back in.
3. While holding the volume down button, press the power button.
4. You'll be sent to the bootloader.
5. Write down everything that you see here and get back to me on this
6. Also include which carrier did you get the phone from

The reason for the above is so that I can (by guessing a little) find out which RUU to use

Also, if you're stuck in the screen with the Android having a triangle with an exclamation mark, just press the power button once. It should bring up a menu.

Also, if you'd PM with your email address (preferably gmail) I will try to walk you through the steps.

I doubt you will get a reply to your PM. He hasn't logged into this board since August 2011.
