HTC Desire A8181 - HT08

er... this is a how-to. The benefits are numerous, like aesthetics, customizations, stability, speed, kernel improvements, full backups, the list goes on and on....

Returning the phone to pre-root is possible.

Current best ROM? I suggest you start small, with the MoDaCo ROM or LeeDroid. They are very Sense-like. I prefer a cross between Sense-like and a Sense-less ROM like noonski's ROM

The thing is that there are a thousand different ROMs, and at least half a dozen good ones for the Desire at the moment. Gotta test'em all!

Did you do the unrEVOked step first?

p/s: one more thing, please check the unrEVOked's MD5 checksum.

Feck... that download is outdated... stoopid website. Follow my guide, and re-do the unrEVOked thing with the right file from the website. This will update your ClockworkMod to the appropriate version.

I'm guessing that the Clockwork and unrEVOked version is not totally compatible with the HBOOT you are using. FYI, the current version is 3.21, which will flash version 2.5.0.0, then updated to 2.5.0.7 later.

Cyanogen just released v6.1, so that link is kinda outdated... I'd prefer to go to XDA for the lastest ROMs...

Best sense-like ROM is LeeDroid, and best AOSP ROM is DeFrost

Download a small app called Mod Install Location for all future installs. You can set the install location from the app.

In Titanium Backup's batch settings, there should be a batch run to move all apps to external memory. Just remember to leave system apps, keyboards (like swype and Swiftkey), and widgets (whole lot of it) in the phone memory, coz they really act up if you put it in the SD card.

LeeDroid's A2SD version will also move the Dalvik cache to the SD card, so now you NEED a faster card. A class-6 16gb card comes to mind here. Also, when you plug the card into the PC, MAKE SURE you eject the card from the PC before doing anything with the SD card.

Lastly, make frequent backups, because we are not using official Google scripts here, so data safety is not as high as we would like it to be. There have been cases of EXT partition corruption and FAT partition corruption. So make sure the PC is not writing to the card when you unplug it, because the corruption could make you lose data.

Just one question, wouldn't be easier just to use ROM Loader, after rooting & flashing up ClockWork Recovery Mod before?

I have done this in my wife's nexus one, and it was so damm easy. Will this work the same way as it did in nexus one (besides rooting of course)? Low Internal memory is freaking me out.
Which mod out there is sense based and it's cool? I liked Cyanogen, but I would not like to miss some sense features Wink
