Does the "calibration" need to be done after every reset ?
Or will 1 time be sufficient ?

Once a month is more than enough. Resets won't affect battery stats.

Can only say *WOW*

Ran through this last night, left phone on standby overnight and checked again this morning....STILL at 100%  Shocked Hopefully it hasn't broken the Battery Display reading and now giving false battery status Cheesy (unlikely)  Smiley

Test it a couple of days first. Most users have feedback that their bats lasted a whole day before recharge.

1d 11h 53m since unplugged.....currently at 65%
Main batter hogs have been Cell Standby 33%  Phone Idle 32% Wi-Fi 26% Bluetooth 7% & Android System 2%
A few calls in and out, calender etc....a lot better so far than it was.

It might be bugger all, but I'm easily pleased  Grin (damn site better than the HTC Touch Diamond 2 with a larger battery that is for sure!!!)

It didn't work for me, Ive tried it 4 times on my 3 week old phone. Blue Tooth off, wi-fi off, I leave my gmail running but everything else is off. Nominal use and im lucky to get 18 hours.

After first charging seems to be the best time to do it.

Do a full discharge first. Use up all the battery from the phone, then charge until full, then re-do the calibration.

I am currently in the process of becoming a convert.  I am heading over to Orange and HTC Desire next month (need to wait til my current contract runs out).

Really looking forward to having the new handset, however I have heard extremely negative comments concerning the battery life.

After coming across this site and some of the information available hopefully I can improve the battery life.

One question I have concerning this charging method is whether I should do this on the new phones first charge or on the second charge after it has been used then fully drained?

Thanks for your time Smiley

Hi Clifford, welcome.  Congrats on doing your research first.

I'd suggest calibrating it after 2 or 3 charges.  Anywhere in the first 3 or 4 days is fine.

Regarding the concerns, there's a few things worth mentioning :

1 ) The battery needs a few charges to get up to full capacity.  Some manufacturers let the batteries go through a few cycles already before putting them in the box, but HTC apparently doesn't do that.
Depending on how you use the phone, it can take anywhere between 5 days and 2 weeks before it's broken-in.

2 ) At first you'll be tinkering with the phone a lot.  Powerful CPU + battery that is still not optimal = dreadful battery life.  Don't be surprised if it only lasts 4 or 5 hours if you're playing with it a lot in those first days.

3 ) There's plenty of tips to get the most out of your battery.  Use a static wallpaper, don't overdo the screen brightness, set up your mailboxes to poll at reasonable intervals, idem dito for the "Stocks" app (or turn that one off alltogether), turn off the WiFi when you don't use it, put the phone in standby mode yourself instead of just waiting for the screen to go dark, stay clear of any apps that claim to improve battery life, memory usage etc (such as taskkillers).

-----

My main Desire (which gets used the most) easily does 36-45 hours between charges with moderate use.  When using it intensively I still get a day out of it.  That's including browsing, reading e-books, mailing, phonecalls, 3G on 24/7.
My other Desire gets around 80 hours with the occasional phonecall, messing around with the settings (for testing forum-related issues) and 3G on 24/7.

Considering that most smartphones are supposed to be charged every day, I'd reckon that's sufficient.

Thanks alot for the information, it's reasuring that the battery life can be significantly increased.  If I had done no research and upon my first use of the phone it had only lasted 4-5 hours I would have been devestated!  Good to know there a ways and means to fix these issues Smiley

Yeah I shall be tweaking alot of the widget/push time frames etc to ensure I get maximum battery life.

This is rather irrelevant to the thread, however does anyone know if 500mb of data allowance would be sufficient for browsing internet, checking football scores, download the occasional app, email and facebook use.  I do use the internet regularly (on my current phone/contract it is unlimited, and they actually mean unlimited) however I don't usually download any music/videos etc.

Thanks again for all the help so far Smiley

I have a 500mb plan, and usually only use 300mb.  That includes browsing the forums, some youtube-ing, mail polls, weather, etc etc.  IMO 500 should be plenty.
