Hi, could anyone help me out here ?
recently lost my HTC and lost all my contacts on my SD card.
When i try and sync with the HTC program on my PC it doesnt work (for whatever reason) and as such i now cant get all my contacts onto my phone.

all my contacts are stored on my PC , which is windows 7 and im trying to find a way of copying these contacts onto my HTC desire.
if i try and copy my contacts onto the phone through the USB lead, the contacts do then show in my phone memory (on my PC) , but not actually on the phone itself. (if that makes sense !?!

any help would be much appreciated.

regards

andy

Nope. Doesn't make sense at all. Didn't you sync to your google account?

That's why we tell people to enter their contacts as Google contacts.  Then there wouldn't be any need to put them on the SD card or anything.

IMO the best option is the following :

Disable your phone's internet connection and put the phone down.  You won't be needing that for a while.
Open gmail on your PC and login to the gmail account you have set up on the phone.
Go to the contacts screen.
Copy-paste everything from your database to your gmail. (Could take a while if you have lots of contacts)
When you're done, pick up the phone again and turn the internet connection back on.
Let the phone sync.
All contacts should now be on the phone.  From now on they'll be synced between the phone and your gmail account on a regular basis.

If you are not getting anywhere with HTC Sync give MyPhoneExplorer (free) a go.

when i copy a contact from my pc, there is nowhere on the gmail conacts screen to paste it to, the only option i have is to import them as CSV files (which it wont let me do as it says the files are not recognised)??

cheers

hmm ... nice trick.  I was thinking more along the lines of creating a contact in gmail, then manually copy-pasting over every single detail and starting on the next contact.  Your method requires a lot less work indeed.
