How do I manage a phone number without the phone automatically calling it?

Example 1. Someone calls me,(unknown number previously) and I want to add his number to my contact list. Every time I press on the number it starts dialling it. If I go to menu it doesn't give me any option to "save to contacts". Or sometimes if I give up and just press the numbers into the phone, it says "save to people" but doesn't seem to give me an option of adding as a contact. The only thing I can do is go to "add" new contact" and manually put in the number?? Seems crazily complicated.

Example 2. I get a missed call, and don't notice it till it's late. Again it's an unknown number. I want to text that number saying "got a missed call from you, it's too late to call, so I am texting...who are you and can I help?" But how do I stop the phone from dialling the unknown number? Where is the option for me to text rather than phone a number that has appeared in my call history?

From the main screen, hit the "phone" button (bottom of the screen, right in the middle).

The list of recent communiations will pop up.

Press and hold the unknown number. A menu will pop up allowing you to send a text to the number, edit it, save it to contacts, etc.

Perfect thanks! I never think to press HARD since the lightest touch is so responsive, I always think I have to press so lightly.
