To any Desire user...
can anyone tell me how to remove icons from the "all apps" page? I don't mean just moving it from one page to another but making it disappear all together especially when you have already moved the icon to another page.

any idea at all? Or does the phone need to be rooted?

As the name suggests, "All apps" is a list of ALL the applications on the phone.  Only way to remove an icon from there, is to uninstall its app.

Removing icons from screens is fairly straight forward.

touch and hold item then the screen will change to having a border round where apps can be placed at the bottom a "remove" button will appear. Just drag teh icon to here and it will be removed from teh screen

You can also reposition an icon to another paert of the same screen in the same manner

Hope that helps
