Many of my contacts have several telephone numbers and more than one email address as well. Most of my contact are initially recorded in other applications (Gmail and others) and are imported-synced to the smartphone.
A "primary" tag is automatically associated with one of the contact numbers. It is convenient when making outgoing calls on the run, but sometimes the tag should be allocated to another number. Is there any easy way of editing this, and if not, what is the logic applied by the "People" application to associate the "primary" number when a long list of contacts are imported/synced in from other sources?

I think this is best done in another application, eg export the address book or use Outlook.

The primary number will always be the first number on the contact's card.  So if you want to make (for example) the third one the primary, you'll need to delete the first 2 and then add them again below the one you choose.

Not too sure how this works if you import numbers from lots of places.  Mine were all added manually on the phone and it hasn't been allowed to import any numbers or addresses from other sources.

No need to delete the numbers and then re-add them.

If you go into the contact's details and longpress the number you want to set as the primary you will be offered the option to set it as such.

Hope this helps.   Smiley
