Hi, newbie here so be gentle  Grin

Has anyone any advice/tips on how I can limit data usage by turning off unneeded programs.

My reason for asking is my tarrif limits @ 1 gig, being new to smart phones I've no idea if that is enough?

Simply put I only use the phone for emails and browsing, eBay Twitter Facebook forums etc.

Also doing the above I guess would extend the battery, although that is not really an issue just a bonus.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Easiest thing, and which is what i do, is to turn off WiFi/3G when not using it and simply turn it on when you need to use it again.

There are widgets available in the Market (APN ONOff, for your 3G and WiFi OnOff, for your WiFi)

Then add these widgets to your home screen of your Desire and it's a one-click job to turn WiFi/3G on/off Wink

Turning off B/Tooth GPS, WiFi helps (battery hogs)
Also if you're running a task killer, dump it. They take up unnecessary resources.
My Desire's running on 500MB/30 days with plenty left over if I only use WiFi for streaming etc.
One GB seems more than enough if you're only using it for emails social nets and email.

Thanks for that,

I've only just got the phone so still to see how much data i'll get through. My previous handset had a log where I could see how much data i'd used, does the desire have that somewhere does any one know?

Cheers for that,

After talking to a few mates they echo what's been said, that 1gig should be ample for my needs. Just did'nt want to get hit with an unexpected bill (didn't make it clear I'm a tight arse yorkshire man)  Cool

Just be careful with youtube, as that does eat your data allowance rather quickly.
