Hi,

Tried to edit an existing event and change the calendar from "PC Sync" to Google.

I couldn't find a way to do that and was wondering weather there is an option to change the default calendar to Google for future events, AND do the same for all my existing calendar items.

Thanks in advance.

Just had a little play with the calendar to look at this.

Mine defaults to google and I don't recall doing anything special to tell it to do so automatically.  So I assume it remembers the last used setting when you create new events.

However ... those events that are already on there, did you sync those from the PC to the Desire?  In that case it's only logical that the phone shows these as PC sync events.  By default, the Desire's calendar will sync with your google and facebook account, and with your PC if you attach it to that and let them sync.  The appointments it gets from Facebook are shown as facebook ones, those it gets from gmail are shown as gmail ones and those it gets from the PC are shown as PC sync ones.

Thanks.

I never synced it with my PC and already found out that the phone remembers the last sync option for future events.

My main problem is the fact that the original setting ("PC sync" in my case) cannot be edited/changed and it looks like I'll have to re-enter all events manually - this time with Google as the default... Sad

I'm afraid so.  Well, it's a good way to get used to entering events quickly.  By the time you're done editing them, you'll be doing it a lot faster and with more confidence.  Practice makes perfect.

I have 2 Google email accounts. One I use when I sign up to websites that I don't check often because its usually full of spam and one I use every day with all my contacts and calendar events. Unfortunately I signed in with my spam email first so now I can only sync the calendar of this email address. It won't allow me to sync the calendar of my main gmail account. When I try to delete the spam email account from the phone I get the message 'the account is linked to other programs so can't be deleted' or something similar. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

I only use 1 gmail account, so I can't verify this.  It's actually from the Evo forum.

Basically you'll need to run the phone's setup (all applications -> Setup) again and enter the desired gmail account when it asks you to sign in.  That will then be your primary account and be used for syncing.

Also, there might be another option.  I just came up with this myself

Open gmail
press the "menu" button
select "Accounts"
Press the "menu" button again
select "Account settings"
in the manage accounts section, select your primary account
de-select the "sync calendar"
then go back, select the other account and select "Sync calendar".

EDIT : yes, I know.  I like to make things complicated  Cheesy

Unfortunately this will not work as you only get the option of Sync calendar with your primary account.  The other accounts just let you sync mail and contacts.

So it looks like you will have to rerun the setup again and enter your other Gmail account details.

Thanks for the info, Tricky.  As I said, I couldn't verify this myself as I only have one google account.

Thanks for replying so soon.  I tried both suggestions.

When I run the setup again the criteria for gmail is already filled in with my spam email account and clicking on it doesn't allow me to edit the address.

I took off the sync to the spam calendar but there isn't even an option to sync the other account.

I think my options are factory reset or typing in calendar events manually

Thanks for both your help.  Was a silly mistake for me to make in the first place

Just checked it myself, and no option to edit it indeed. Tried gaining access to a menu, tried long-clicking, double-clicking, all to no avail.

I'd suggest a factory reset.  Sure, it's a serious amount of work to get everything back the way it was, but that way you can switch to the right account and don't have to re-type every appointment manually.  It'll also clear the memory from all the leftovers of uninstalled apps.

Make a checklist first.  What do you need backed up?  Which account do you want to use for what purposes?  How do you want everything integrated?   If you find the answers to these, you'll be able to get much more out of the phone.

I've had mine for about 6 weeks now, and am planning on doing the same thing next weekend.
I'm going to check out whatever app I think I might like, then make such a checklist, do a reset and set the entire phone up according to that.   It's running perfectly fine now, but there's just some things I'd like to see differently.
