I am a very new owner of the htc desire - and was pleased to see that it supported speech to text facilities (as in the instruction manual - its shows the message keyboard with mic) - but i have been having problems with the app, it only understands around 1 in 30 words i speak - I dont have an accent! - I emailed htc support andthey said they dont  support 3rd party apps - if this is so, then why do they show the keyboard with mic in their very own instruction manual?Huh - also am having problem with the absence of delivery reports, i know I can access them by a a long press on the area of text i sent - but its a little tedious doing this every ten minutes when you need to know your text has been delivered, and not like a normal text being received  - a very basic function that any non smart phone has been able to perform since mobile texting began!! - apart from that I really do love my phone - just a couple of little niggles that would make the phone  a little bit better!!

Jackie,

With regards to delivery reports : I advise you to turn them OFF, both for SMS and MMS.

There's a bug where some types of phone don't understand the way the Desire asks for a delivery report, resulting in messages not going through at all.
At the moment we're not sure if it's a bug in the Desire or in the phone types it can't communicate with (hell, we don't even know which phones exactly have this communication problem), but the only safe thing to do is to turn it off on the Desire's end.

As for speech-to-text, that only supports american english, so if you're from the UK it won't understand a word you're saying indeed.  I speak both british and american english (often both in the same phrase), and really notice that the phone is confused whenever I use a british word or vowel.

God danged phone is racist!

No, seriously, it is Google's fault. I speak (ahem!) impeccable Queen's English but the phone struggles to understand me.

To get the basic delivery report in the native app, go to
"Message" > [Menu] > "Settings" > under the SMS settings header, "Delivery reports"
and "A Large Violin!", you are set. Or I should say, the phone is set.
