Was updating(http://blog.gamermatrix.co.uk/?p=194#comments) my phones OS. It updated correctly and restarted the phone after the update. The phone booted up with the start up sound and the phone is working fine except the screen is completely blank so I have been advice to do a factory reset (volume down + power button) the problem with this is that the screen is still blank so can't see whats going on. Is there anyway I can force a factory reset with out needing to see what is going on on the screen? Thanks in advance.

Be patient. The update takes up to 30 minutes due to re-populating the Dalvik cache.

In any case, follow the Factory reset link on my signature for a comprehensive guide to doing a factory reset. HTC doesn't even come close to my methods Tongue

2. Holding the [Volume -] key, press the power button once. Hold it until you see three skateboarding Androids at the bottom of the screen

The problem with resetting my phone is that the screen is blank I cant see anything.

I read some where it's something to do with the HTC desire having 2 different screen types the SLCD and AMOLED and that the drivers for them are different I have a hunch it might be this.

So I am trying to find out if there is any other way of reseting my phone with out me needing to see whats going on on the screen like example plugging it into my computer and telling it to reset my phone?

Any Ideas?

Of course.

You didn't follow through the entire thing. Please take out your battery, put it back in, THEN follow step no. 2

AMOLED or SLCD, it doesn't matter. Those button combos are for all Desires.

I can't follow these steps when I cant see what is going on on my screen I can try and do it blindly but I don't have a exact key sequence that I can follow.

I did remove the battery.

Right, this is testing my patience a more than a little here, but I'll be patient...

1. Take out the battery
2. Put the battery back
3. Hold the damn [Volume -] on the left side of the frkn phone. It is the physical button for reducing volume dang it!
4. While holding the button, press the power button once.
5. You should boot into the bootloader. Now, go back to the guide and carry on.

Failing that, youtube can help you, coz the day I put up video links...

Yes I do understand your instructions and I appreciate your patience concerning this but please understand that my phones screen is always blank even when I boot into the bootloader thus making it almost impossible to reset the phone. I hope this clarified what my problem is.
Thanks for helping so far it's highly appreciated

Ah... I see... sorry, lack-of-caffeine-but-can't-get-another-boost syndrome kicking my crankiness Tongue

Did you suspect that your battery might be out? The update is quite power intensive...

 Cheesy Not a problem  Wink
I've charged the phone till the battery was full (orange LED changes to green LED)
So currently I am trying to get an exact sequence (including time between sequences) that I have to press the buttons or find a way to reset the ROM via the computer.
This situation is considerably annoying. To the looks of things I'll have to send it in so HTC can have a look at it. HTC support wasn't too happy with me when I told them I tried to update the phone.

Yeah, you'll need the SDK and abd tools to do it. I can't help there. XDA will be more helpful.

If your screen is still black, try this:

Pull the battery and power cable, then hold the back button while power on.
You will not get a wibration or any sound... You are now in fastboot mode.

Connect the usb cable and flash this:

You should get your screen back Smiley

Wish I had this Utility before I tried the other ROM (should of done more reading, I just couldn't wait to update to 2.2) I have a hunch that ROM stuffed up my phone up because even with this software I couldn't fix the phone. The technician at the cellphone place tried this exact tool to fix my phone but with out any luck. They have sent the thing it to HTC for repairs 4weeks of it Sad o well thats how the cookie crumble. Thanks to everybody trying to help me its highly appreciated.
