When I plug the phone into a USB socket I get a message that Windows does not recognise the USB device. On other occasions, I have seen a message that indicates Windows recognised the connection of an android phone but that it fails to make it ready for use. Any ideas? Are there special Win XP drivers for the Desire? TIA ... Greg

No, I can't install  HTC Sync because the PC can't see the SD card and hence can't run the exe program .... Greg

Hi,

You can use the phone as disk drive directly without syncing software. Just plug in the usb cable and the phone will get the charging icon on top left corner. Pull down the icon and you get a menu. Select the one with usb symbol and you get another menu. Select 'use as a disk drive'. You are set to go. Just wait for a few seconds before starting to explore your sd card.

Cheers!

I have now downloaded and installed HTC Sync and unfortunately I still get the Win XP message that the USB device is not recognised. I downloaded the smaller of the two options available at the HTC website ... the one without the word NAM in the title. Perhaps I should have downloaded the other? Nevertheless, I saw HTC drivers install during the HTC Sync installation process ... Greg

Have you tried restarting the PC and changing the USB ports?

I have restarted the PC but I will try a different USB pot and see if that works. The reason why I haven't tried that yet is given my rig the alternatives are hard to access! I will update the forum once it's done, thanks .... Greg

A number of folk have the same problem. My home PC is fine but the one at work sometimes doesn't recognise the drive. Using a different USB port usually works and you can always try Right Clicking  My Computer  > Manage (check that the drive is seen) > Allocate a different drive letter. This assumes Win XP
