Hi on my htc desire the volume button, home and menu button stoped working. i can lower the ringtone volume but not raise it.. the home and menu buttons dont work at all.
when i reboot the phone they start to work again for a few seconds then they stop to work.

sometimes they come alive without me doing anything, but then they stop working again. its like they have a life of their own Smiley

anyone else experiencing this problem? im using firmware 2.2

Too strange... If you are reluctant to send it for repairs, try doing a factory reset.

Sounds like a firmware or OS problem. That's the only reason I'd suggest a factory reset. Besides, backups should be done regularly ;-)

MrKazu,

Same problem over here. Tried factory reset and buttons work again for a few moments, then nothing.
Now and then they will work again and then again nothing.
Same buttons: Volume up/Menu and Home.

I personally think its software related.....

Unfortunately, only the service can solve this problem.I was told that's problem of the keyboard modul or something like that:(

That's what I'm afraid of too, simply because the hardware buttons are directly layered on the hardware, and not firmware related...

Methinks at this point it is best to take it for a service.

I can add something weird to this behavior.
I use a task killer and when I also kill some system tasks, it shows the HTC screen and the buttons work for a while.
After some time the buttons stopped working again.

So, what is it? Software or Hardware?

YES! We have the solution!

You have installed a rogue app. Please go through the apps that you have installed lately since this problem came up and uninstall it.

There! Problem solved!

Eurhm....

Got only 3 apps installed, so used myBackup to backup data and went back to Factory Default.
After reboot it started with choosing carrier etc. setting up WiFi and skipped adding a Gmail account.

The buttons Volume-up/menu/home don't work. Powered down the phone and restarted it.
Buttons work, going to menu, browsing through the applications and back. Buttons stopped working.

Went to market, added Gmail account, browsed through market and went back.
After some switching between menus, buttons work. Used home button once and again no buttons.

Didn't install any apps, only activated market. Buttons work or don't work, its driving me nuts.

Went to market, installed MyBackup (also a Gmail update got installed) and restored only Contacts.
Restarted the phone and the buttons don't work. Started MyBackup again and restored HTC Home, system settings and Bookmarks. Had to restart the phone again and buttons work......

Shoot me, I don't get it. After a while, yep they stopped working.
So, is it hardware or software related?

I have suddenly started having the same problem. My belief is that it is software related, and probably is associated with either Spotify or PowerAmp. I'm closely watching which apps I launch both before and after the problem occurs and today I ran the Spotify app with all the buttons working fine. When I finished my trip and took the phone out of the car, the two buttons had stopped working.

Can anyone having a similar experience:

a - confirm that they have either Spotify or PowerAmp (full version) installed, and

b - list their installed apps to establish which apps are common to all phones with this problem.

Cheers,

Gary

Hi Guys, I just found this forum..one looks when one needs....  I have the exact same problem (up volume, home and menu key working when they wish)  I backed up and did a factory reset.  no help.  Buttons turn on and off at will.  Im done trying, and now will set it to repair.  Its free, so why not.  HTC cust care was fast and friendly and who knows what I will get back. Maybe a refurbished unit with a clean frame!  Just do it!
