I can receive emails but I can't send them. My email account ends @ntlworld.com and this doesn't seem to be recognised, I just keep getting 'authentication failed check server domain address' can someone please help. Thanks Heather

Hi, I've had problems with my ntlworld - I think they've changed thier mail server.
My settings are smtp server, smtp.virginmedia.com security type,  SSL port, 465

Hope that helps.

Had my HTC Desire for a day and it was okay sending emails then next day wouldn't. Just getting notifications that email not sent.

My SMTP settings were:

SMTP: smtp.blueyonder.co.uk
Security Type: None
Server Port: 25

After reading a few forums I changed to the following:

SMTP: smtp.virginmedia.com
Security Type: SSL
Server Port: 465

Works great again.

Hope this helps.

smtp settings depend on the network you are using.  For instance if you're using WiFi, you'll need your ISP's settings as you're using their network.  However if you're using 3G, you'll need your mobile carrier's settings.

Now I know it's kinda stupid to change these settings every time you switch WiFi on and off, so there's only one solution really.  Set them up for 3G and make sure you're NOT using WiFi when sending a mail.  3G is the most certain network you have, as it'll always use the same network.
