Hello there,

I know that there are other topics open, but none of the advice given there helped or was applicable, so I decided to start a new one...

Well, after painfully entering the 26 digit hex code of my wep encrypted signal I was not able to connect, despite "excellent" connectivity and multiple other agents (laptop/computer/xbox and phone) working without issues I decided to turn off any security and still am not able to connect....  I was hoping someone has an idea?

Not sure what would be beneficial information. In the router following settings seem interesting:
WiFi easypairing : on
Channel: 1

I just got the phone, so "factory settings" I would assume (was without sim)

I thought it would help me to see the error message it get's when failing to connect to WIFI... but I don't know where I can see the message (if there is one). Unless the error message is simply "disconnected"

Help would be MUCH appreciated Smiley

Tom

I'm glad I didn't start a new topic on this as I am having the same problem and it seems a new one.  My laptops connect fine to my wifi but my phone will connect to any pathetically weak open wireless signal in the area, but not to my wifi which is right next to it.  I have also correctly entered the WEP key but it won't play ball.

This is a new issue; it used to connect to it just fine.  One thing different: I got a new "plug and play" router from my ISP, and the problem has been since then.  But everything else is working perfectly with the new router, including my iPad, just my phone.  I'd also  be extremely grateful if someone has an answer to this.  As my phone isn't so new as the first poster I might have a setting wrong that is getting it to do this but I can't see what it might be.

What speed are your routers set to?  Basically there's 3.

B (11mbit/s)
G (54mbit/s)
N (100-640mbit/s)

The Desire won't connect to N routers.  If there's a setting on the router's control panel/page to adjust these, be sure it's set to either B or G.

No idea.  That should be somewhere in the router's manual.

I called Easynet this morning and they categorically deny that the problem can be with their router.  They said it's the same speed as the one it replaced anyway, and their techie guy didn't seem to know what you meant by B or G connection and wanted more details.  But he seemed very skeptical that it could be a problem with their router rather than the phone.

OH I should point out the new router is not my wireless router, that's the same one as before; it's the internet modem router so as such has no "speeds".

ah, ok.  I was under the assumption that it was your wireless router.  the modem doesn't have such speeds indeed.  Nevermind then.  In that case, I wouldn't know either.

Hello,

ONE:
I'm assuming both of you (SemanticTom, lyric) have browsed to this menu before,

Settings,
Wireless & networks,
Wi-Fi (tick)
Wi-Fi settings

And able to see your network name there?
--------
TWO:

Anyways so after you select your Network, and input your info.,
if wrong password/ HEX is entered, it will show CANNOT CONNECT TO NETWORK.  Cry

So SemanticTom is using Wep network?
------ I dont have one or tried, so I'm not sure; I use WPA/WPA2 PSK setting.
Also sometime i use my Windows 7 Laptop + Connectify software
to share my wired connection with my phone lolz.  Cool

If you post your Router company/ model etc, then someone may try to google it.
Eg. mine is TP LINK --- TL-WR741N

We dont read minds, really~  Grin

Hikdragon:

But why would my wifi work for everything else BUT my phone? If it was a problem it would be an overall problem with wireless access woudln't it?

Also as I have said, it's not my (Belkin) wireless router that has been replaced, it's my Oneaccess Onefifty modem router sent to me from Easynet (plug and play) as a replacement for a faulty one, that is new.  So it's not a new wireless router at all.

Now that you mention the brand,

how do I get the router's control panel/ web page?

the Belkin default address is http://192.168.2.1/
Taken from: corenetworkz.com/2009/07/setup-belkin-wireless-n-router-by.html

Also about the Wep connection, you may want to see here

I know. I have found the belkin address. As I have said, why would everything else connect to it just fine but not the phone?

It seems a number of people are having the same problem. I have a HTC Desire HD and cannot connect to my home WiFi, I have a Linksys WRT54GS Router. I have been able to connect to WiFi in a coffee shop and bar, so the phone can connect! My phone gets stuck in a loop trying to obtain an IP address

At home I have tried the following:

1. Changed security from WEP to WPA2 Personal
2. Added a MAC address to my router from my HTC Desire HD (vodafone forum advised this could be a cause).
3. Changed from channel 11 to channel 6
4. Turned off all WiFi on my phone and found my router again

My laptop, PS3, girlfriends pc all connect to my wireless router and work no problem. I am no expert and no a few basics usually enough to get me by. So, some of my other router settings are below, maybe a real techie may read this and have a moment of clarity!!

Wireless Network Mode - set to G only
Internet Connection Type - set to Automatic Configuration - DHCP
DHCP Server - set to enabled
Wireless Channel - tried on 6 and 11
WPA Algorithms - set to AES
Group Key Renewal - set to 3600
UPnP - set to Disabled
Firmware Version - v1.50.9, Sep. 14, 2006

And on advanced wireless settings the following is shown

Authentication Type:       (Default: Auto)
Basic Rate:      (Default: Default)
Transmission Rate:      (Default: Auto)
CTS Protection Mode:      (Default: Disable)
Frame Burst:      (Default: Enable)
Beacon Interval:      (Default: 100,Milliseconds, Range: 1 - 65535)
DTIM Interval:      (Default: 1, Range: 1 - 255)
Fragmentation Threshold:      (Default:2346, Range: 256 - 2346)
RTS Threshold:      (Default:2347, Range: 0 - 2347)
AP Isolation:      (Default: Off)
Secure Easy Setup:      (Default: Enable)

I am going to post the above on the vodafone forum to see if I get any replies there, if I do I'll reply back!

Thanks in advance all.
