Charging Only when connected to PC: always worked before!

Hiya,

I've looked through threads and none of them seem to address the problem I'm having.

I've had the phone for months and months and never had a problem connecting to the PC as a storage device before, but today, when I want to upload holiday photos, it won't connect, only charge.

It's plugged in the rear USB ports, it's not the car charger and I've rebooted, re-installed and re-everythinged everything and still nothing.

The only thing I haven't tried is installing the update that's been sitting there for a couple of weeks because I was told by a few people that it actually mucks up the phone rather than helps it. Does anyone know if that's (still) true and if it would help? I'm about to reach phone-smashing time...

Mine started doing this after I had factory reset the phone due to a different problem yesterday. I seem to have solved the issue by turning phone off, removing the battery , sim and memory card, leaving it this way for a minute then putting it all back together, boot up the phone (allow time for the phone to reload everything fully) then try to connect to the pc again.

Maybe you tried all of this previously but it worked for me, up to just.
