When I use the phone a couple of minutes the desire will reboot complete.
Most of the time it keeps rebooting until I remove the battery.
Same problem happens alsowith other kinds of usage. If the phone or data connections are active it will reboot.

I did reset to factory default but without success.
Android 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.15-g6a358a9
software# 2.10.405.2

I'm afraid I will miss my desire for some time.

Anyone another idea what can solve this problem Huh

Best to send it in for repairs indeed.  Be sure to mention that you did a factory reset and that it didn't help.  Otherwise they might simply flash it and send it back.

Hi, I see there are many single threads but is there one main thread for this problem...
The Desire rebooting it's self because it's overheating, caused by the hardware fault on the motherboard?

I'd like to know if it's hundreds or thousands of Desire handsets that have been sold with this major fault.

I'm not sure if it is overheating or that there is bad temp-sensor. The phone didn't feel warm. My phone was starting to reboot very quick after using it.

Currently it's back to HTC. I expect to have it back next week.

I'm sorry to hear about your problem, @jlieben

I sure hope HTC sets things right.

How long has it been since you purchased your Desire, if I may ask? And how long have you been having this problem?

The problem started after about 6 weeks of use without problems.
There was no update short before the problems started.
I tried to fix myself by factory default settings but without succes.

So after a few days I brought it back.

Hiya all,
Joining this ďwe love HTC DesireĒ thread also.
Hope this is the only/main thread for this on this forum else i'll post this in all.

Gonna skip right through the useless info.
Got the phone, got the prob, send for repair, waitingÖ

This is what Iíve noticed that is common on most forums and threads about the reboot problems:

-Starts around 2 months after use
-Reboots get worse over time
-Firmware and android version doesnít matter which you have
-force apps2sd doesnít matter if you use it or not
-PVT1 or 3 or whatever doesnít matter
-Screen type, doesn't matter if you have AMOLED or SLCD (so far as i know)
-There seems to be an antenna/radio/simcard issue also
-overheating causes reboots too
-Reboot is not always temp related
-sd card size doesnít seem to matter
-having apps on sd or not doesnít matter
-size of files on sd doesnít matter
-rooted or not doesnít matter
-seems like motherboard changed after repair doesn't help now either
-simlocked or not doesn't matter
-provider doesn't matter(vodafone, kpn/hi, T-mobile etc all got it)
-seems to be hardware issue, but as we all know software can greatly affect hardware so it can go either way.
-restarting doesn't fix it
-factory resetting doesn't fix it (wish HTC would stop asking if we did this! -.-)
-changing battery didn't fix it
-using app killers or shutting down some services yourself doesn't help
-leaving all settings on default doesn't fix it
-all phones with s/n HT03 to HT07 can get this problem

All we can do is rule out everything till we find the problem.
That way at least we can help ourselves or HTC with fixing it.
However it seems like HTC wants to ignore this reboot issue completely.

With me the reboots busted my sim card (which was funny much)
Also noted if you turn the phone to airplane mode reboots reduce and next to that I donít get reboot loops over 2 reboots unless I fill in the sim card pin. If I do without going into airplane mode sometimes it gets a service connection and reboots right away.
if you don't have a pin lock and your phone probs are same as mine it will just try to connect right away and continue to reboot.

-all phones with s/n HT03 to HT07 can get this problem

Let's see if we can add info on that.  Can we get serial info on the people here who have the problem?  Check your serial number, peeps.
It's under : Settings -> About phone -> Phone Identity -> First 4 digits of the "Device serial number"

My HT06 is approaching 3 months, so I guess it could still happen at any time.  Any word on the SH series?  Or is it only the HT models?

The reason I have HT03 to HT07 written above is because first we expected only HT05 and HT06 to have the problems.
Afterwards it turned out that HT03 and HT04 and even HT07 can have the reboot problems.
However after a bit we started getting some posts of people with HT03 and HT04 with perfectly fine phones and your HT06 seems fine too. So I basically wrote down HT03 to HT07 can get these problems because it covered all the s/n we managed to get data about and shows that it's completely random if you have problems between these s/n. 3 months seems at least 1 month further than most people who have reboot problems so I think thatís pretty close to being 100% safe. If your phone can go over 3 days or more without rebooting thatís also a very good indication that itís working well.

As for SH serial numbers, I never came across someone mentioning that series or serial number before so I have no idea model they are or if their better. As u said, it would be cool if everyone posted the first 4 s/n digits. That way maybe we can find out more.
s/n can also be found on the phones box and inside the phone too i think.

my s/n starts with HT05 and it's at repairs still
(had it for 1.5 months before the problems started)

Well, my HT06 has only rebooted once by itself, and strangely enough it was on standby for about 2 hours already when that happened.
Checked battery temperature immediately after the boot and found it to be 23įC.  CPU area didn't feel any hotter than the battery area did.

It certainly does over 3 days without rebooting.  That includes periods of simply having it on standby for more than 3 days (with minimal usage) without charging, and periods of very intensive use, draining and recharging the battery twice every day.  I must add that I barely use WiFi or GPS.  I rely mostly on 3G, which is on 24/7.

As for the SH series, I have a brand-new SH08 here as well, hence the curiosity.  If the phone is likely to develop a problem, I'd rather know it in advance.

Iíve seen reports of Evo 4G and Nexus also having some reboot problems. Those 2 phones are very similar to the Desire in some ways. So phones similar to the Desire could all have the same weakness.
Personally I hope thatís not the case because I want another HTC phone (like the Desire HD or so) in the future and it would completely mess up my plans if they all have the same chances of getting a stupid rebooting problem.

So lets just stick to the mentality that these 3 phones are HTC's only and greatest mistake for now.

As for official word from HTC, we canít get in direct contact with them and they donít bother answering questions even on their own official US forums. Support service isnít HTC and they donít really know whatís up either. This got alot of people in Italy, on forums and all around the world pissed and i don't blame them if they take action vs HTC soon.

Mine's a HT08, will post if there's a problem.

One thing that these phones have in common, IMO, might be the HBOOT version and the Radio version.
