Hi.
I've tried all the settings, and also enabling and disabling the 'ask about usb connection type', but even though the phone shows up in the hardware list - so it is indeed linked, there's no pop up on what i want to do with the phone and - as the title says - the phone doesn't show as a folder/connected device in 'My Computer'.

I've also tried installing HTC Sync, but neither does that recognize the phone.

Please help!

morning. i was having probs when i first started using the puter with the phone, my front puter usb sockets arnt usb2 evidently, so transferred to the rear ones and now its more stable, but you could re-install htcsync just to make sure the driver is installed correctly, i plugin with the phone off and in htcsync mode set on the phone, then turn on, allow htcsync program to start first so the driver is loaded, windows should give you a popup looking for the device driver and saying its ready too, another popup to ask if you want to import etc, ignore that. av another go at it, but check the driver version of yer usb ports 2.0 is defiantly needed. gaz

Thanks for your reply.
I've already tried re-installing.
Also, before last night, when I got this problem, I was using the 'disk' function at 'Connect to PC', in 'Settings'. It was working, so there's no problem with the ports or whatever.
I've tried 2 different PC's as well, but all show the same problem: The phone seems connected in the 'Hardware list', but doesn't appear anywhere I can browse it.

No popups show up as well.
I have no idea what to do.

Make sure the USB cable is inserted in one of the USB ports at the rear, as the front ports often don't have sufficient power to support the Desire.  Even my gaming PC doesn't accept the phone via the front ones.

I don't mean to be rude, thanks for taking the time to look at my problem, but comon. After my description of the problem you think I didn't try that??
Also, I've tried connectnig to 3 different PCs and all show the same problem. It's really not the USB ports or whatever.

The thought crossed my mind.  Basically all the requirements are fulfilled.  Sync is installed, the phone is being told what to do ... the only thing you didn't mention (untill your previous post) is which port it was inserted in, which just happens to be the most common cause of Desire-to-PC connection issues.

That leaves only 3 possibilities : either the OS is messed up somehow (that happens), there's something wrong with the cable, or the phone's USB port doesn't work properly.
If you know someone with an HTC phone, the cable can easily be checked.  Don't buy a non-original microUSB cable to test it, as only HTC cables officially work.  We've seen it work with certain data cables from Nokia too, but the regular PC-spec ones usually don't work for this purpose.  They can be used for charging purposes, but not for data transfer.
The OS is a longshot.  I've seen Desires do crazy things because of OS issues, but that usually involves WiFi, 3G or the camera.  Still, a factory reset might sort it out.  I know it can involve a lot of work, so I don't like suggesting it.

If neither the OS nor the cable are at fault, there's only the phone's hardware left.
