Hey guys, so I got a HTC Desire a month ago, and this morning I was going to class in the rain with it in my pocket. When I first got there it still worked because I was playing music out of it but awhile later, after I dried myself off, it shut itself off. When I tried to turn it on, it went into the recovery menu with the three androids on it. I tried selecting clear storage with the volume rocker, but nothing happened. There is no water damage as the stickers on the battery are still white. I called HTC and they said they might not be able to fix it even if I send it in, so I want some expert opinions from the internet. Thanks.

If a factory reset doesn't solve it, it sounds like a hardware problem to me, most likely some water got in there and killed the phone.
If that's the case, consider yourself lucky that the "void" labels aren't triggered and send it in for repair.  They'll probably have to replace the main board, so don't count on retreiving your data.

So I actually did somehow get the factory reset to work, and boot up the phone again, and i reinstalled my apps, and reset my password and everything. However after awhile the phone shut off and did the same thing as before so I booted into the factory reset again, and again it worked. However I'm afraid that the problem will repeat itself. What should I do?

If you are sure that your warranty still works, send it back. Try to get a replacement instead of repairs.
