Hi,

I have a Desire on Orange and yesterday it decided to reboot its self and then get stuck on the white htc screen, I have not been able to get past this screen since. I recently upgraded to Froyo so I'm not sure if this has something to do with it? Also I would often get stuck in a boot loop before and after the upgrade.

I have looked at rooting it, but I understand you need a goldcard? which I cannot make because I cannot get on the phone.... Is there anyway I can flash it without a goldcard?

I have tried to do a hard reset but this didnt help it is still the same, I also try to get to recovery but the phone just resets.

I would normally take it to an Orange shop and ask them to get it repaired but I cant do this as I replaced the screen a few months back and had to take of the void stickers to get to it.

I think I'm pretty much screwed and stuck in a contract with no phone

Any help or ideas on how I could fix this would be very much appriciated, at the moment I am completely lost!

Android Version:Froyo 2.2
Network:Orange Uk
[Optional]Are You rooted & which Rom: No
Issue:Boot/Cannot access phone

Cheers Smiley

Boot loops at the startup screen are usually described by HTC as hardware-related. If the factory reset didn't help, you'll need to take it to the shop for repairs.

The last 2 Desires that I know had a similar problem both had their main boards replaced. I'll keep an eye on this topic to see if there's another way.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies appreciate it, I would normally send it back to HTC or Orange the only problem is that I replaced the screen a while back so the void stickers were removed from the screen so Iím guessing they wonít repair it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated  Smiley

I got that from your first post Smiley

There has to be a way to force your phone into recovery so that you can use it again, albeit with a custom ROM...

Yeah my bad! I copied and pasted my first post into a few forums for help so I had forgotten exactly what I had written! Smiley

After doing a bit of research Im probably going to try and create a goldcard and then try and run a RUU from the pc, any ideas on where I can get a generic one? or which would be best to use?

That could work... Or you can try to run unrEVOked and root your phone... then you can flash all the custom ROMs you want Smiley

Sounds like a plan, will it be easier to use unrEVOked? I might try this later... Thanks for your by the way!

Both are one-click options. RUU might restore your phone to a factory-like condition, so that might be nice.

unrEVOked will root your phone so that you can install custom ROMs, which will be nicer. Since it's the weekend...

Anyway, the reason for the delay was two-fold. Firstly, I was sick. Flu, to be exact. Since yesterday. I'm getting better, but it's an up-n'-down thing.

Secondly, I was scouring the interweb for options. You can't boot, probably just get into the bootloader. I was looking for ways you can recover some semblance of sanity from there, but alas, the Google has failed me. Or I have failed the interweb somehow...

So, I'm gonna suggest that you hit the link in my signature and go all the way until you've reached the end. Skip any parts you think you can't work on.

p/s: RUUs are in there too

Dont sweat it, I'm just greatful for the help!

I'm gonna take your advice and follow the guide, hopefully I can have a working phone tonight Smiley

Thanks for taking the time to look around the net for me and I hope you win the battle against the Flu soon!

I'll let you know how I get on, fingers crossed all goes well.

Cheers Smiley

hehe... actually getting oh-so-slightly better... that foul herbal concoction the GF's parents forced down my throat is good for me I guess...

Since it's you last resort, just root. It wouldn't hurt anyway Tongue

You will need to look for de-bricking guides on the XDA forums... sounds like it anyway.

An update Smiley

I managed to get into recovery (by complete luck it seems because it has never worked before) my phone boots now but is stuck in a bootloop! still getting somewhere!

Trying to access the settings now to enable debugging hopefully then my phone will show as connected on adb.
