Hello, I just became a member and it's so nice to that there's a HTC Desire community.
Anyways, I'm using HTC Desire Z and I downloaded songs on Bearshare for a whole hour to find that my phone couldn't play it after I transferred it from my laptop.

It showed: "Unable to play this type of audio file."

Why? Im preeetty sure they are mp3... but not completely.

Can someone help please?
Thanks.

Strange, seeing as the Z should support a wide range of formats.  aac, amr, ogg, m4a, mid, mp3, wav, wma (Windows Media Audio 9) to be precise.

Does it play on your laptop? Is there a specific DRM on the music file?

Yeah I just read about that too, I found out they're WMA files and I couldn't convert them because they're protected. Apparently, HTC Desire Z does not support WMA. :/

It does play on my laptop. It's perfectly fine.. I even downloaded another music player app on The Market.. I forgot the name of that music player but it doesn't work either so it's frustating.

Then the next question is whether those files are protected in any way... I suspect a DRM system that doesn't recognize the Desire...

Hi, I'm getting the same issue since the last update, WAV files that I was using for ring tones can now no longer be played - any answers out there?

Hi,

I am having similar problems. I can sync or copy mp3's to my phone.
The apps (HTC Music app, doubletwist or Mort music player) give me an error when I want to play the mp3's after I close the sync or 'safely remove mounted drive' from within windows.
When i reboot, except for two music directories, all other disappear.

I checked on DRM protection, converted them, to be sure and played them in windows, which works fine.

Everything else on my phone works great. I am now thinking that maybe my 16gb sd card is the problem... I already scanned it using scandisc, but no errors were found...

Does anyone recognise these issues?

Am also having this problem.
I don't think it is anything to do with the SD card (mine is a 32GB Kingston).
Still scratching my head a bit to why this is not working, is this just a design fault with the HTC Desire ??

The songs that I am using are ripped from CD's into Mp3 format and sometimes they load on but then fail to load getting the message "unable to play this type of audio file", and then disappear after a reboot / remove and re mount the SD card.

I came across the below link, which I thought might help, but no joy.
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f70/htc-desire-mp3s-problem-34383/

What I also find interesting is HTC claim that the phone supports most media files, but clearly not...

If anyone has got any gold nuggets of wisdom, please share. Thanks

Shadow
