Hello guys n gals,

I got a problem with my HTC Desire phone that I bought about 3 months ago.

Recently I noticed that sometimes the major functional buttons stopped working (including the power button on the top and the home button etc). This usually happens when the phone is in sleep mode and when I tried to activate it by pressing the power button, it was unresponsive.

After trying for a while I took the battery out and rebooted my phone only to find that all my phone settings have been restored to factory setting!

Furthermore, the phone tells me it can't detect any SIM card!! So I turned off the phone normally and removed my SIM card then put it back in. This worked and my phone can read the SIM card again...BUT! When I went into look at my messages, all of them are displayed in phone numbers rather than contact names (as in, instead of having the name "Joseph" on the top of the txt, it displayed his number instead) - clearly something has gone wrong and the contact name is not matching the number?

What should I do? Embarrassed

This has happened to mine twice now. First it was the home button then the menu button. Despite what a lot of people will say it is not a software issue but a hardware one.

However it is easily fixed...after a while the buttons collect grime and this can end up duffing the contacts out. Get some electrical contact cleaner (IPA 170) from your nearest hardware store and carefully spray a little over the buttons (try to soak the buttons but not the screen), leave it to soak in for a ten or twenty seconds and then press the buttons rapidly over and over....repeat this a few times and you should start to get the responsiveness back.

Since I did this my buttons work every time like a brand new phone!
