I downloaded all the package, but when starts the actualization, in middle of the process, a symbol with the phone, an a big red interrogation symbol appears, and the installation is canceled.
someone can tell me, what thats mean, and if there is any solution, i search in the internet, but can't find anything.

thanks for your support
sorry about my english

It means there is a problem with the update and it was rolled back. How exactly did you get the update? And what is interrogation symbol? Is it a hoodie and a bottle of water? Sharp knives?

Hello
I got the update throught the phone (adjusments-about the phone-software actualizations-search know)
The symbol was: all the screen black, and small phone (the desire, see it in perspective) and a big red interrogation symbol over it,
I going to try to take a snapshot to clarify.
Thanks

Anyway, cesarr, you will need to do a factory reset for starters, and if that doesn't work, you'll need to bring it back to where you bought it.

HOW TO DO A FACTORY RESET - Taken from the HTC website:

1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER button.
2. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the VOLUME DOWN button..
3. Press VOLUME DOWN to select CLEAR STORAGE, and then press POWER.
4. Press VOLUME UP to start the factory reset.

Done properly, it should take less than 15 minutes. It was much quicker for me, but 15 minutes should be the limit of your patience.

Thanks for your responses

sakai4eva i tried what you suggest, but didn't work. I do the factory reset (took 3 seconds, i didn't know if thatīs normal, because you talk about more time) but still i got that error.

I applied all the actualization's before the froyo, without any problem, so i donīt know if is a phone problem to send it back to the seller (still was not an option for me because is in another country)

another thing to mention, like a said at the beginning, is an htc a8183, but i bought it without all the telstra junk, so in the software properties of the phone, appear like a htc a8181, i don't know if this has something to do with that problem.

Can we get more info on your phone?

Did you buy it in a known shop or order it online?
Did you de-brand or root it?

If you ordered it online or bought it from a shady shop, chances are that it's a debranded phone, which is usually giving problems with the updates.  When in doubt, contact HTC and ask for more info on your phone's IMEI number.  They should be able to tell you which country (and on branded phones : which operator) it was intended for.

This thing also happened to me. The OTA Froyo update you downloaded was intended for HTC Desire with Amoled Screens. This update will not install on newer Desire with Super LCD. You can go to your local HTC Service Center and have your unit updated there.

I don't believe that there is a difference between the screens in terms of software and therefore updates.

Therefore you should still get the update OTA.

A little info on top of things here, hope you are not overloaded with info by the end...

A factory reset does not help with a broken update. The update by itself will check the MD5 checksum before installing, and will only install (or actualize, in your jargon) if it is correct. So, if bought it 2.1, updated it OTA to 2.2, a factory reset will only wipe user data and bring it back to 2.2 FroYo. I have tried this personally, and I dare anyone to tell me differently. Nah, just joking. But I did try it. Once.

As for branded/debranded phones, that one is a biggie. Updates will NOT work. Rooting (by right) shouldn't affect the phones. Custom ROMs will. It is a big issue since many sellers are doing the debranding instead of selling an UNbranded phone. For that, you will need to bring it back to HTC, or failing that, root and flash ROM. Which way to choose? Well, do you still have warranty?

Thanks for your explanation sakai4eva.
It seems that i have to keep my device in his current state (No Froyo Sad for me), i tried a lot of ROMs, search and follow a lot of xda forums, create gold cards, change radios, etc, etc, but i cant get to install the software!!! of course i'm a noob! and in this country (colombia) android is not to used, to find some help.
Still, again, thanks for your support.

Thanks  sakai4eva, you are the best, i follow all your instructions, and now i had froyo installed in my device.

I really appreciate your support.

Just two last question
At the moment that will be available another android update, i had to do all a similar process? or it will be automatic?
If a restore the device to clear all the information, this affect something of this installation?

OTA updates possible only if the ROM developer enables it. Otherwise, applying another ROM over your previous one is quite fast and easy:

0. Backup using Titanium
1. Download the full update zip
2. Load it into SD card
3. Reboot into recovery
4. NANDROID backup
5. Wipe cache
6. Wipe system/Factory reset
7. Install new ROM
8. Boot into new ROM
9. Restore using Titanium

If you are merely updating within the same ROM, the backup and wipe steps are not needed either.

thanks sakai4eva

I will keep that info for future updates.

Until now my phone works great, except for one thing, i can't access to my data plan (internet plan, mobile plan) I configured all the info, and in fact the phone shows the 3g symbol in the little upper bar, but none application can access to internet, none the explorer, the market, etc
