Running out of memory

Apparently my phone storage space is getting low, so I need help in freeing some up.  I have moved as many apps as it will let me on to the SD card, however some won't move. I don't have a massive number of apps, and find it annoying that you can't put them all on SD card but hey ho.

I have no idea where my photos are stored, if it's on the phone then I don't know how to move them to SD card, I know I can save them to PC & then delete them off the phone, but don't want to do this unless I'm sure it will make a difference to the phone memory.

I also have various pdf documents that I have downloaded, don't need these anymore but can't figure out how to delete them, or again if it will make a difference.

Other things - contacts, these are stored on sim & phone - I have an option to export to SD card, but how do I then display these, presumably if i could do that I could delete them off the phone, as long as they still link to facebook etc.

texts - I suppose I could delete some of the hundreds of texts I've kept since getting the phone...

It's really annoying me now, I have notifications for about 8 apps that have updates available, but when I try & update them, there's not enough space.

Sorry, but this post is totally unintelligible to me.

Photos ARE stored on the SD card, so are not part of the problem.
Contacts and Texts are stored in your internal memory so ARE contributing to the problem.
If you have your facebook account linked to your contacts, that can download heaps of extra contacts in to your phone.
It would be a good idea to get rid of your really old texts. You can use something like "MyPhoneExplorer" to copy them to your PC first.

I think I've found a partial solution to this problem. I have been having this problem with the dreaded 'disk space' icon appearing for some time now but I've been too scared to root. I keep finding myself deleting apps every couple of months. Last night I got down to 14 MB remaining. I don't store many texts on my phone and I'm down to about 3 or 4 (non default) apps left.

After deleting another app last night, I was looking through other apps I could get rid of and was looking to see if I could get rid of any of the default apps which I don't use. In Settings/applications/manage applications you can uninstall updates of some of the default apps. I went through them all uninstalling updates then reinstalling the latest versions. I am now up to 50 MB of free space. I wonder how long it will last? It's good news for now though ;-)

The only one I had a little bit of trouble with was the play store. Unistalled the updates but couldn't find a new version to download. The old market app still works fine though.

This is probably not as good a solution as rooting but it is a quick and easy way to free up some space.
