PLEASE HELP.

Im a girl and i'm not that good with technology so i desperately would appreciate someones help.

My phone has been fine untill the last week. It would usually have plenty of space for media but recently it doesnt. I decided to transfer all my photos and videos onto my Mac so i could continue to take photos and videos. But even after i had done this (emptied all my photos and videos), it said my SD card was still full.

I then went to settings - SD and Phone storage, and saw that i only had 77MB available. I checked to see how much of my music was using it up but it was only using 3GB.

I decided to reformat the SD card and doing so i lost everything. Hoping that everything would be ok now i connected my phone to the computer to upload music. Everything was fine until i uploaded the 4th song and it said that their wasn't enough space.

Im now looking at my SD & phone storage page on my phone and it says
TOTAL SPACE - 7.40GB
Available space - 3.22MB

INTERNAL PHONE STORAGE
available space - 1.05GB

Could someone please help me!  I Just want it to go back to having plenty of space for photos, videos and music and not all these troubles. Also if someone could explain the difference between SD & Phone Storage and Internal Phone Storage.

i have read other similar posts on this site but they usually referred to downloading apps. I Havnt done this.

THank you.

1. What phone are you using? It doesn't seem like any Desire have that much internal space...
2. What SD card are you using? Are you sure it is legit?

www.desirehdforum.com <-right place to go

generally, the SD card should be full capacity. I'm not sure how you are transferring data to the phone though...

With a Mac.

That's probably the cause of the problem.  Macs are known to occasionally wreak havoc on the SD cards that are in HTC phones.  You can do the exact same thing twenty times without a problem, but eventually it WILL go wrong.  Usually the card will go into read-only mode, but I've read reports about cards that were ready for the trashcan.
The 2 brands are not really compatible and neither of them seems willing to do something about it.  Even on a PC things can go wrong if you use iTunes to transfer the files to the phone.

Basically there are 2 options :

- use a PC to transfer your files (booting the Mac in Windows via Bootcamp might work, but to my knowledge that has not been verified)
- Get a Mac-compatible cardreader that can support MicroSDHC, take the card out of the phone, insert it in the cardreader and try to drag your files from the Mac's hard disk to the SD card.

A third option would be to sell the HD and get a phone that is compatible with Macintosh computers (ie an iPhone).  But let's not go that far.

Or sell the Mac and get a PC running Linux.

I connect the phone to the Mac by its USB cord. Open the phone up in Finder and it shows a list of folders. Android, DCIM, Downloads, Media, Music etc. I usually just drag and drop into the folders what id like there (photos, music). Then i disconnect the phone and its fine.

Right now, there is near to nothing in those folders. Yet it tells me that my phone has 7.95 GB and only 4.1 MB available. And wont allow me to add anything to the folders, insisting their isn't enough space.

The phone itself wont allow me to take any photos with the camera because the "SD card is Full" And i just reformatted it...it makes no sense?

What did you use to reformat?

Have you tried to run a Linux VM and use Gparted to do it?

That wouldn't work. You need to reformat the thing using an external device. Try finding a nearby geek, or failing that, google it. You might have to learn how to make a gparted liveCD just for formatting your sd card, but it's well worth the effort Cheesy

Not sure... could be something gone wrong. I don't have a Mac, so I can hardly help you if you use a Mac...

These forums work much better if you report what you actually had to do.
Just imagine the frustration of someone with the same problem as you, who finds this topic, only to not have the solution revealed...  Grin
