Several Issues with phone - advise greatly appreciated!

@MarioH....I did a factory reset before I sent the phone back to my provider, just to make sure that it wasn't something that could be rectified quickly. They are afterall electonic gadgets with lots of small parts! This unfortunately for me did not solve my problem but it may fix yours.

Interestingly, you're having similiar problems to me minus all the applications, as I thought my problem was an application mal-function but having received a replacement back from Three (since they clearly couldn't fix the phone which had no add-on applications since I'd already done the factory reset) it obviously was a software / hardware problem.

If I were you, be prepared to have it repaired / replaced.

@XSaenen....we can only try to get upgrades when the customer service has been what I would call up till Friday, appalling. Outside UK call centres are never the best, as the phonelines are invariably poor and unclear. The script reading is atrocious and Three's team has only started to use their iniative when I demanded to speak to the Customer Service Manager who read through my case before speaking to me.

On another note, have you had any dealings with the new Desire S? It has just launched at Three this week, so I am uncertain as to whether I should try and stick with a HTC Desire 'better the devil you know' as opposed to the new Desire S which lacks significant forum comments'?

I'm awaiting the call from Three's Customer Service Manager regarding my situation right now! 

Thanks for info on Desire S. I saw one on Saturday and it does indeed look like a great phone. When contracts are up for renewal there's always something else that comes along looking even better! 

After more chasing on my part with Three Customer Services (they really are rubbish and a strong complaint is winging its way to the UK Head Office as we speak) they are reluctantly sending me a brand new HTC Desire. They are maintaining that my touchscreen issue is a well known 'listed' fault that cannot always be rectified. They were pushing that I had a completely different phone, but of course when I asked for the upgraded Desire S, suddenly I'm getting a brand new HTC Desire again! I have however, stipulated that should this next phone have the same issues I shall of course expect a brand new different model next time. I'll give it two months to see if any problems develop.....

Not sure how long you had your Desire but jumping ship so soon?  (I've already don my own research on the new model and it appears some have Wifi connection problems when holding the phone in a landscape position.....good luck with that!)

And....you mentioned you had your own hardware problems on your Desire....what pray tell can I look forward to going wrong next?

Scratch that, those pictures were apparently from an early prototype or a pre-production phone. 
I just bought an S and the SIM and SD are still at the bottom.  Between the battery and the lower part of the screen actually.  It looks like the CPU moved to the top part.

The strongest 2 options for regular users are the Factory Reset and the RUU.  The RUU isn't even for normal users anymore, so if a factory reset doesn't sort out your problem, the phone will need to be sent in for repairs.
