If I use Skype on my HTC will I get charged for it ?
There are two types of charges you need to consider: (1) Data charges from your phone company and (2) Charges to your Skype account if you call landlines or mobile phones as opposed to another Skype enabled computer.
1. Carrier charges: If you do not have an unlimited data plan you may be charged by your carrier when using Skype if your data usage goes over whatever preset limit you have. However, if you use Skype through free wifi, meaning that you connect to the internet with free wifi, then you will not be charged by your carrier for data usage.
2. Skype charges: Computer to computer calls are free with Skype, therefore you will not incur Skype charges if you call another Skype enabled computer. You cannot call phones on Skype unless you have a Skype account through which you will be charged if you call landlines or mobile phones.
This means that if you use a free wifi hotspot to call someone on a Skype enabled computer, the call will be completely free:no carrier charge & no Skype charge. If you use free wifi to call a phone, your Skype account will be charged for the call but there will be no carrier charge. If you use your carrier to connect to the internet instead of free wifi you may incur a data charge depending on your data plan. Skype charges will be as above. Hope that helps.
