I did a factory reset on my HTC Desire Z two weeks ago and just a warning for those of you who will do so: Remember to back up all your game scores. My level of Angry Birds completion was GONE! T__T

I didn't notice any problems after resetting it, I resetted it because my apps kept force closing and the system (touch response, opening/closing apps, web surfing, etc.) seemed to slow down A LOT. Till just now I wanted to transfer some pictures to my laptop and when I connected it, I could only find pictures that were taken before the reset.

It's not in F:\DCIM\100MEDIA and I couldn't find it anywhere else. I installed SDrescan, restarted and scanned my microSD card but nothing happened. I also tried the USB debugging option.

I really tried to find a thread with the same problem but none of the recommended solution worked for me. Please help me! I don't wanna buy a memory card reader, I don't know if even that would work.

Connect the phone to your PC and copy the entire memory card over to a folder on (one of) your computer's your hard drive(s).  Then you'll have a bakup of everything and can use windows' search function to locate all .jpg files on the disk.
If none of them are the new pictures, the phone simply didn't save them on the card (which I would find very unlikely, but then again I'm not used to the Z and don't know how it differs from the normal Desire).

Do the new photos show up in the gallery?  In that case you could try to look for them on the internal memory (again, I would find that VERY unlikely).  AndFTP allows you to browse the contents of the internal memory and upload the files to a webspace/ftp server.
It's a big workaround, but I used it in the past when I was experimenting with some of the files on the internal memory.  So I know it's possible to get files that way ... IF they are on the internal memory.

I don't know how to use the Windows function exactly, unless you're talking about the one at the Start button that says "Search programs and files". My phone did save them... and yes, they show up in Gallery. I checked the location in Details and weirdly it states that the file path is /mnt/sdcard/DCIM/100MEDIA yet it's nowhere to be found through the desktop!

Er... I don't know what FTP is either.  :(I'm such a n00b):

I don't know how to open the internal memory when I connect my phone to the laptop. I believe that all the folders I see are on the external memory card?

Thanks so much for replying, XSaenen!
