So after using the desire for about a year, the volume buttons became faulty.
I need to press them about 5 times until they react.
I don't know if this is a hardware or software issue, but I can honestly say that I keep my device from any harm, so it's not a result of the device getting hit...

Anyone else had this issue?

Apparently not.  Perhaps some dirt snuck in there, or perhaps there's a hardware issue indeed.  HTC offers a 24 month warranty on the phone itself, so I'd suggest getting it looked at.

Anyone?

Actually mine also have the same problem...
It started as mentioned above, the volume buttons became unresponsive from time to time and then...
Now I'm stuck in the boot screen. I tried to reset using Recovery then Factory Reset but in the middle of the process it freezes and an error screen with a phone and a red triangle.... I tried several times but same boot screen appears when i use On/Off button. What should I do?
Mine also is kept in "good shape" away from dirt or humidity...

i have just inherited my son's HTC desire (18 months old) and it is showing these problems and I over came them in the following way. Clean the contacts on the HOME MENU and BACK/SEARCH buttons. With regard to the Volume controls I made up a small shim from electricians insulating tape (4 layers thick) and inserted this behind the buttons in between the buttons and the battery housing. all works fine now. look to youtube for dismantling instructions - you only need to remove 8 screws and you can lift the HOME button board enough too clean underneath.

funny that you can read a lot from users with the problem but very little from htc about it. i suspect they won't admit a fault which has blighted users appreciation for their product which is intrinsically a good phone. i had a nokia 95 where all the plastic deteriorated before the mechanics did. here we have a robust case with the innards failing long before they should.

I hope this helps

I'm having the same issue after about a year of having the phone the volume rocker has stopped working... i have to hold it down for about 5 sec for it to do anything. :/ i have just switched to using a app that i found which you can put a widget on the home screen and adjust the volume there. But that is really annoying when i want to change the volume in a app... i have to go back to the home screen and change the volume there. anyone got any tips :/
