I am On Leedroid 2.3a(not gingerbread)
Baseband: 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.15-leedroid_2.3 snq@drone #1
Build number: 2.29.405.2 CL226611 release- keys
Software Number: Leedroid V2.3a

Do you think I should still shift to DeFrost or Cyanogen for the working wifi?

I think you should try using a different Kernel first... There's plenty of different Sense kernels, and it might be worthwhile to see which one works.

If you wanna change ROMs, try AuraxTSense first... I think it is still Sense-like, so there shouldn't be an issue. You might not like AOSP ROMs.

So far 2 weeks no problems with my wifi all still appears ok.

This morning an update came in from HTC 

Phone info after upgrade

Baseband 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27

Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c

Build number 2.29.405.2 CL263770 release-keys

Software number 2.29.405.2

I was a bit cautious at first, but I thought what the hell so I let it upgrade. All is well so far, everything still works!

@ashu154  Not sure if these settings are any use to you if you're still out, but maybe worth looking into.

I've done update Android Froyo 2.2 to version 2.29.405.2, and now my Wifi has an error.
What I need to do?

Clear the cache of your phone using Cachemate and redo the setup for wifi

I have been trying to get this problem sorted for months now!! @sakai4eva is also making all efforts to help us!! So lets try the solutions together!! Is yours a Unbranded HTC Desire which is showing error after update?

Hmm... AuraxT seems to have lost all of his hosts... Try LeeDroid instead... I still think you should try changing kernels and/or radio combo before changing ROMs. Those two things are more likely to be the software key to this problem.

Then Both of us are suffering from the same problem!! Its confirmed.

BTW, Just paid my mobile bill today!! The 3G data charge were 8 times more than the calls I made ie. have been using 3G as Wifi not operating for long now!! So sad I got to shell out that sum despite having wifi at home and office. Anyways hope things work out!!

Installed [ROM][19/12] ۵.AuraxTSense v8.2 HTC Sense 2.2·(FRF91|720p|A2SD+|UVOC|MulLang) which has a different kernal but still didnt work.

I'm afraid that at this point, it could be a physical error with the phone... I'm totally out of ideas, software-wise, how to solve it.

A combination of the right kernel and the right radio will definitely solve it, but I'm unsure how to proceed with your device...

Hey back again!! I just installed this app called Z-Device Test which tests all the hardware pf the device.. This showed my Wifi & Bluetooth as operating..

I still believe that its not the hardware because.
a) The problem started right after updating to 2.2( Was working like a dream with 2.1)
b) Had it been the hardware, WiFi & Bluetooth should have been permanently damaged and non operative all the time but this one works sometimes & scans for the wifi metwork connection (Also connects some time for 5-10 mins then the phone hangs.
