I've never owned a mac, so I have no idea how unrEVOked works on one. But, I can attest to the fact the unrEVOked is really as simple as plug in the phone, click the button, wait about 15+ minutes and you'll have custom recovery and SU.

sakai4eva,

Just rooted my Desire using Evo3 on my Mac. You were right, all it took was to download the evo3 package .dmg file, click the usb debugger, connect the phone and evo3 took over.  It took all of 10 minutes and now i have a rooted Desire!  Smiley My hat's off to the unrevoked team!  Great work.

guys, have some stupid questions. I have a Desire (picked up from Singapore using in India) running 2.1. Now I've been prompted to update to Froyo when I logged on to the net. My questions:

1. What happens to the 2.1 when I accept an install of 2.2 directly when prompted? Does the update remove 2.1 and then install 2.2 or is it on top of 2.1?

2. Is it better to root and then install 2.2?

If these questions have been addressed on this forum, please point me to the right thread or post. If no, then please enlighten me.

Thanks in advance!

Maddy,

2.1 will be replaced by 2.2 .  They're not that different to use (to the user there isn't much of a difference between them really).  Last week I was sorting out some stuff on a Desire (not mine), and it took me 10 minutes to realize that it was still running 2.1 .  That's how similar they are.

Wether or not you should root ... tough one.  I haven't rooted my phones and don't see any reason why I would do it either.  Others swear by it.

The link at the bottom does nothing but show "Amorvi.com" what am i doing wrong?

Ok, so the process is now complete, and root access has been gained for the fantastic phone that is the HTC Desire. There are a number of reasons why you might want to root your HTC Desire:

    * Store apps on your sdcard instead of phone memory. So no more running out of space to install apps!
    * Get rid of those stupid demo apps your provider adds to your phone.
    * Turn your phone into a WiFi hotspot. Other devices can connect via wireless and share your phones internet
    * Take screenshots of your phone from your phone.
    * Better memory management, your phone will never slow down!
    * Overclock your phone, more speed! (If possible!)
    * Full backup ability. Backup your whole phone state. Restoring this backup puts your phone in the exact same condition as the backup.
    * Use 'Market Enabler' to access paid apps if currently unavailable in your country.

Lets get on with this then!

I'd guess the only thing you are doing wrong is arriving too late. That link was posted nearly two years ago, and the website seems to have disappeared since then.
