Hi everyone,

Let's go straight to the point here's what took my phone down :
I had HTC Desire that I rooted with unrevoked. A several days ago I was notified that a new OTA update (the 2.29.405.2 version, the 28.89MB zip file) was available, so I downloaded it and tried to install it. The update wouldn't install as my phone was rooted. I found on some forum some guy that said he had the same problem and managed to install the update by renaming the zip file update.zip and moving it to the root of the SD card so this is what I did.

Now my phone is stuck at the HTC white boot screen, keeps rebooting. When I boot it in recovery mode it displays an error message (see attached file) like :
 SD cheking....

I'm really new to all this and any help is more than welcome!

Take out the sd card and remove the file, then reboot?

Nope still nothing. I'm afraid I may have removed ClockWork and didn't install another bootloader. How do know I still have a working bootloader?

There's one working thing though. When I boot in recovery mode with the micro USB line plugged in, the phone is identified as an "Android Device". So maybe I can install a bootloader through the android SDK ?

That guy may have been able to install the OTA on a rooted phone, but there are many factors here.  An OTA update is intended ONLY for the default OS.  If you rooted, changed the bootloader, changed the radio firmware or are running a custom ROM, all bets are off.

Bottom line : If your OS isn't 100% stock, disable the update functionality.

Just get into recovery and install a custom ROM. Then if you wanna unroot, just run an RUU

The problem is that I don't seem to have a recovery or at least not a working one. I tried to re-install unrevoked but Linux doesn't recognize the device. I'll try again while running windows with the phone in recovery...

It didn't work either.... it didn't recognized the device (I tried in recovery and in the endless booting loop).

Unless you guys have any other idea I think I'll see if I can have HTC repair it.

I can get it to a menu with the following 4 items which from what I understand is HBOOT :
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIM LOCK

I'm experiencing the same problem today. It was working fine S-OFF with Leedroid 2.3d. I booted the phone and now it is stuck on the "Why So Serious?" screen.

I reflashed the LeeDroid ROM and at the moment have left the phone for a 15minute  period just in case it needs that time.

Is there a checklist from the least drastic upwards I can follow to revive the phone. I would like to avoid losing settings if possible.

thanks
