Well, i did say it was super coolio!! I love it. If you d/l the pack with all the extras and put it on the root of your SD, its like having all the good stuff back... link is here again for people that might be lazy and can't use the scroll wheel on their mouse Tongue

Yaaah I will flash noonski tonight!!!!
One thing though did you have to back up your apn and reinstall it after flashing? Im quite scared coz my network is WCDMA/3G only ( I'm living in japan) and I want to be sure 3G is working properly.

well i just flashed noonski and it is really cool!
i have a few questions though...
1.) can we install the latest radio w/ his rom? im not sure but i think my browser is quite slow on 3G now, does it have any relation to the radio installed?
2.) also is there a way to view the ext part of the sd card? seems like all the apps i download go straight there, since there is no change to phone memory, but i would like to move some apps to phone memory, however i cannot see the ext part/

thanks

Yeah, latest radio can be installed. To view EXT3 partition, you need to install an app called Quick System Information. As for moving apps between EXT3 and phone memory, that is hard to control. I use Choose Install Location for that.

Try this....

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications

Then tap 'On SD card'

When you tap on an app, it should give you option to move to Phone (and vice versa)...if possible.

some apps can only be on phone and vice versa....even some apps that are on your SD, also have parts of the app on the device.

PS - shouldnt be an issue with the latest radio's.

I am on:

Good luck.

32.47.00.32U_5.10.05.23   but i think Noonski himself is on a newer radio, so it should be fine.

The Radio i quoted is the minimum Radio you need to be on to use Froyo (effectively).

Cool

well thanks to both of you. I have updated my radio already and everything seems cool now. This Noonski Rom is so clean. If you have other recommended roms please tell me.
Thanks!

No worries, i like the Noonski ROM..a lot

Fancy Widget is a nice replacement for Sense Clock Wink too, even tho i use Beautiful Widget Home Weather, i still find myself using Fancy Widget!!

Will keep you guys linked to any nice ROMs i find, but ultimately. I will be making my own soon (just need a few nights free time).

Take care

None of you have still answered my question: Why should I root my Desire?

I know I get admin rights if I root. But why do I want to root? Getting admin rights can't be a good enough reason on its own.

Which apps needs admin rights?

When I jailbroke my iphone the reason was Cydia, is there something similar I get access to when I root?

@ David

Essentially you are rooting for the same reason's, except there isnt a Cydia (trust me - i have both iphone & desire).

Root is admin (low level access), apps that needs this on Android vary but are usually system apps like some File Explorers with read & write access. So you can manually move stuff around your file system. I do this on my iphone too to change themes & winterboard add ons to my own liking.

Root allows you have a recovery console, to make backups of your ROM situation. Root allow you to flash custom ROMs (if you wish). Root allows a lot of cool system tweaks, mods, etc etc.

It is jailbreaking your phone, but its what you do with it that matters....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_%28Android_OS%29 - basics.....maybe some useful links for you too.

Ultimately you can do more and make more of your HTC, but only if that is what you want to do, if you don't then you will think it is pretty useless to root?

Here's a simple example:
Without root, Titanium Backup can't access your system apps and more importantly, the system app's data. If you so happen to perform a full restore with data from Titanium Backup, you will have the program up and running, with all the data you had previously, without needing to run any other backup.

Here's another example:
I can FORCE programs to install to my SD card. I can also FORCE programs to use my SD card as the Dalvik cache. That means, I have about 768MB more storage. While you can do that without root, a rooted Apps2SD+ can utilize EXT partitions, which are more stable and safe for constantly manipulated data. This is why most heavy users NEVER complain about lower app storage space. As much as we try, we couldn't run out.

Talking about Cydia, there are alternative markets and ways to access them. Funny thing is, you don't need them.

I got the root on my desire because of the amount of dross it came preloaded with. I do not need the stocks price update, facebook is a waste of precious time as is friendstream, twitter, myspace and other social networking traps. It was also preloaded withAl Moazin, calls to prayer, and the Quran.

please don't think me a bigot, I have not removed these from my Desire just frozen them, I would not want them on my device for the same reasons that I would not want the Bible, the New Testament, the Torra, the teachings of Buddha, the book of shadows, so spake Zarasthustra or the art of war by Zun Shwei. I gained the root to free spce for applications i feel useful. However if you are happy with the content of your Desire then as a matter of course there would be no need to root the device.

Thankyou for taking the time to read my small rant, I feel much better now and as always.........................

Hi all!

In my little noob mind, the reason to root the phone is to improve the performance and to somehow make apps take lesser space on the internal memory. (I've tried forcing them to SD card and it worked for a while, but soon after that I just couldn't update nor install new apps...) So, I get it that rooting alone won't do much for me, but what can I do after that, to help my phone breathe easier? Do I just flash a different ROM, or is there more to it?

peace!
